Olde Outlier are a band from Australia that plays a very old school mixture of black, doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "From Shallow Lives to Shallow Graves" which will be released on December 19th by Iron Bonehead Productions.
A very dark yet heavy sound while the vocals bring in a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the early 90's era along with the slower sections of the songs also adding in elements of doom metal and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
All of the songs are also very long and epic in length while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Clean playing is also added into certain sections of the recording along with some clear singing also being used briefly, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic yet old school style as well as some spoken words also being introduced on a later song and the whole album also sticks to either a slow or mid paced direction with some atmospheric touches.
Olde Outlier plays a musical style that that goes back to the early 90's era of black metal and atmospheric doom/death metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Olde Outlier are a very great sounding atmospheric and old school mixture of black, doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Revellers" and "All Is Bright". 8 out of 10.
