Dreadnought are a band from Denver, Colorado that plays a mixture of black metal, doom, folk, progressive and post rock and this is a review of their 2015 album "Bridging Relms" which will be released in August by Sailor Records.
Psychedelic sounds start off the album along with some atmospheric keyboards and folk instruments and the music also brings in saxophones at times and after awhile operatic female vocals are added onto the recording and when acoustic guitars are added onto the recording they give the music more of a progressive and post rock feeling.
Most of the songs are very long and epic in length and the heavy guitars bring in a heavy doom metal feeling to the music while the harsh vocals are in more of a high pitched black metal direction and the songs also mix in the heavy and clean parts together as well as using both harsh and clean vocals.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and you can hear a lot of 60's and 70's progressive rock influences in the bands musical style along with a decent amount of slide guitar and some songs bring in elements of funk, jazz and Latin music and the songs stick to mostly a slow yet dark musical direction while the music does speed up briefly on the last track and also brings in a few seconds of blast beats.
Dreadnought plays a musical style that has its roots in black, doom and post metal but also mix in progressive, folk, psychedelia and jazz to create a very original musical style, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the infinite and the unknowable.
In my opinion Dreadnought are a very great sounding mixture of black, doom, post metal and progressive rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ode to Ether" and "Tanspiration". 8 out of 10.
