Mindscar are a band from Orlando, Florida that plays a very technical form of blackened death metal with some metalcore elements and this is a review of their self released 2016 album "What's Beyond The Light" which will be released in August.
A very heavy yet melodic sound starts off the album along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful and a few seconds later death metal growls make t heir presence known on the recording while also mixing in metalcore style breakdowns, black metal s tyle tremolo picking and blast beats.
At time s the music can be very technical and the solos and leads also continue that same tradition while also mixing it in with a great amount of melody and throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and clean playing along with movie samples can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and on later tracks progressive elements can also be heard at times and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts while one track is all instrumental and melodic vocals are added onto the last song.
Mindscar plays a musical style that takes a technical and progressive style of death metal and mixes it with black metal and metalcore to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark and mythological themes.
In my opinion Mindscar are a very great sounding mixture of black, technical death metal and metalcore and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I Am The bad Man "Cerberus" and "What's Beyond The Light". 8 out of 10.
