Soothsayer are a band from Ireland that plays an atmospheric form of blackened doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 ep "The Soothsayer".
Atmospheric and avant garde sounds start off the ep and after a few seconds the music goes into a heavier doom metal direction along with some growling vocals that also brings in a touch of touch metal while the solos and leads are done in a very dark, melodic and depressive style and black metal screams can be heard at times.
All 3 of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the riffs also use a great amount of melody while also being very atmospheric at the same time and the music also sounds very modern and there is also a brief use of melodic chanting while clean playing is introduced on the last song and towards the end the music speeds up a bit and also brings in a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beat and spoken word parts along with some weird sounds close the ep.
Sotthsayer plays a musical style that takes a very melodic and atmospheric style of doom/death metal and mixes it with black metal to create a style of their own, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover darkness and nature themes.
In my opinion Soothsayer are a very great sounding atmospheric blackened doom metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "33 From The Sun". 8 out of 10.
