Sfera Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We've all known each other from being in and around the metal scene from the late 80's/early90's and playing in various bands such as Overthrow and Nailed, but it wasn't until around 2013 that we all came together as one unit to resurrect Soulstorm. After playing lives shows for a few years and doing a few recordings, we were looking for a change from the Industrial doom of Soulstorm. We work well together and have a great time playing so we decided to just start writing without any preconceived ideas of what we wanted to do. We were all from the old school metal scene so we knew that would be strongly present, but we were excited to just see what came out.

2.Recently you have released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

 We all bring something different to the table and you can really hear that in these songs. You can definitely hear where we came from...growing up listening to Grind and old school Death Metal, yet you can hear the influence of Crust and Black Metal in there as well.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Dark themes interest us. War, Religion, Hate, Power, Chaos, Disorder, Nihlism

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Sfera'?

Choosing a band name these days feels next to impossible! Everything is taken...multiple times! SFERA means 'sphere' in a few languages, such as Greek, Italian and Polish, but it also a slang term for 'bullet'. It was one the names we all agreed on, so we kept it!   I always heard that word growing up, it was always in reference to somebody being blinded or killed by sfera

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

SFERA has yet to play live. We were concentrating on getting a few of the initial songs recorded first so we would have something to share and hopefully generate some interest. Soulstorm proved to be heavy and punishing live, so I can only imagine how ferocious SFERA will be with the change in direction and refocused energy!

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

No tour plans as of yet. For now we're just going to continue writing and play some shows locally to get the music out there.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

So far it's been DIY. If any labels are interested though, we're willing to hear them out!

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black, death metal, grindcore and crust?

It's still early as the EP has only been officially out for a few weeks, but so far we've been getting positive feedback!

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

We are all focused on SFERA at the moment.

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We got back to writing immediately following the recording of 'Death Will Come' and it's going well! We're in no big rush to do a full length right away as we'd like to get some shows under out belt first, but as I said, we work well together and the songs come together quickly, so who knows?

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

This one is always hard...Everyone in the band has such a wide variety of music that they listen to! I would definitely say our influences are old school Death Metal, Grind, D-beat and Black Metal. As far as specific bands, I'd say Morbid Angel, Obituary, Mgla, Napalm Death, Implore, APMD.............
