Epitaphe are a band from France that plays a mixture of black, doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2017 demo which will be released in December by Chaos Records.
A very fast and heavy sound starts off the demo along with a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking while the music is very heavily rooted in the early 90's as well as all 3 of the tracks being very long and epic in length and the slower riffing is very heavily influenced by doom metal.
Vocals are mostly deep death metal growls along with some screams that have a black metal influence to them while the riffs also bring in a great amount of morbid sounding sounding melodies and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic fashion.
Psychedelic and harsh noise effects can also be heard briefly and at times the music also gets very ritualistic and experimental sounding while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with some spoken word parts being added for a few seconds on the closing track.
Epitaphe plays a musical style that mixes black , doom and death metal together with some experimental elements to create a very dark yet heavy recording, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Epitaphe are a very great sounding mixture of black, doom, and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Embers". 8 out of 10.
