Vincent Crowley is a solo artist from the United States that is best known with his work in Acheron for the past 30 years and on this recording plays an old school mixture of black, doom and death metal and this is a review of his 2021 album "Beyond The Acheron" which will be released in June by Odium Records.
A very dark sounding horror movie orientated intro starts off the album along with a brief use of ritualistic chants before going into a heavier musical direction. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style while elements of doom metal are also added into the slower sections of the songs.
Dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly death metal growls along with some black metal screams also being utilized at times and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also be heard.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the mid 80's to early 90's era along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of synths as well as some clean playing also being added into certain sections of the recording, as the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts can also be heard and most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon death and doom themes and also shows some inspirations from the writings of Edgar Allan Poe.
In my opinion Vincent Crowley is a very great sounding mixture of black, doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo artist. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "La Muerte" and "Bring Forth the Dead". 8 out of 10.
