Gravefields are a band from France that has been featured before in this zine and plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Tetragammaton" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath, Australis Records and Vrykoblast Productions.
Clean playing starts off the album along with a brief use of demonic voices before going into a heavier direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and brutal blast beats can be heard while the vocals also add in a good mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. Angry shouts can also be heard at times along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style, on some of the tracks spoken word parts, synths and clear vocals can also be heard in the background and as the album progresses Gregorian chants are also utilized briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon the rise of 17th century messianism which breathed life in a false religion with some occult references.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Gravefields and if you are a fan of blackened death emtal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Forbidden Psalms" "The Blessed Pariah" "Seraphim" and "Our Allegiance". 8 out of 10.
