Upyr are a band from Bulgaria that plays a blackened from of doom metal and this is a review of theri 2013 album "Altars/Tunnels" which was released by Serpent Eve Records.
"Before the Altars Of Necrotic Karma" which is also the first song on the ep opens up with distorted amp sounds before adding in sound effects and drums as well as some slow and heavy guitar riffs and a few seconds alter black metal screams are added into the music, as the song moves on there is also a brief use of death metal growls and towards the end melodies are added into the guitar riffing.
"Into The Tunnels Of My Sleep" begins with clean guitar playing and drums which then leads to heavy doom metal guitar riffs and a few seconds alter melodic vocals are added into the music as well as the clean parts mixing in with the heavier elements which also leads to growls and screams making their presence known while also coming around clean vocals in certain sections and adding in melodic guitar riffing towards the end.
"Hymn To Pan" starts up with distorted amp sounds and clean acoustic guitar playing before adding in spoken word parts and death metal growls as well as some clean singing and halfway through the song heavy guitar riffs are finally added in.
"Welcome To Mr Ritual" which is the last song on the album kicks in with heavy guitar riffs and drums as well as some demonic growls and after awhile dark sounding melodies are added into the guitar riffing as well as a small amount of black metal screams and as time goes on by the vocals get more diverse as well as the bass guitars getting heavier along with a small amount of guitar leads..
Song lyrics cover darkness and occult themes, while the production has a very dark and heavy sound along with the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Upyr are a very great sounding blackened doom metal b and and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Before the Altars Of Necrotic Karma" and "Welcome To Mr Ritual". RECOMMENDED BUY.
