Crypt Rot are a band from Ohio that plays an atmospheric form of blackened death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Embryonic Devils" which will be released on April 28th by Southern Lord Records.
Natural noises along with atmospheric keyboards start off the album and after the intro they keep the atmospheric elements while also going into a heavier direction that also uses a decent mixture of both death metal growls and black metal screams and when they music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
A great amount of 90's influences can be heard in the bands musical style and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the solos and leads also stick to a very old school style and clean singing can also be heard at times and segues are used before all of the tracks and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts as the album progresses and one track also brings in a brief use of acoustic guitars as well as a small amount of female vocals.
Crypt Rot plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in old school death metal while also mixing in some black metal influences to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover life, death, politics, anti religion, suffering and mental health themes.
In my opinion Crypt Rot are a very great sounding atmospheric blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Chapters Of Torment" and "Internal Organ Fest". 8 out of 10.
