Suffering Hour are a band with members from both Minnesota and Colorado that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "In Passing Ascension" which will be released in May by Blood Harvest.
Clean guitars start off the album along with some heavy yet melodic riffing a few seconds alter while the vocals bring in a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams and you can also hear a great amount of melody in the guitar solos and leads and the music also gets technical at times.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard along with the faster riffs also bringing in a decent amount of tremolo picking and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and avant garde elements are also used in some parts of the songs along with a brief use of angry shouts while spoken word parts are also used briefly and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and there is also a brief instrumental before returning back to vocals.
Suffering Hour plays a musical style that takes a very progressive style of black metal and mixes it with death metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover nihilism, cynicism, cosmic, philosophical and metaphysical themes.
In my opinion Suffering Hour are a very great sounding cosmic blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Devouring Shapeless Void" "Through Vessels of Arcane Power" and "Empty Avowls". 8 out of 10.
