Apathy Noir are a duo from Sweden and on this recording expands on their progressive and melodic, mixture of doom and death metal by adding in black metal influences and this is a review of their self released 2018 album "Black Soil" which will be released on January 31st.
Atmospheric sounding keyboards start off the album along with some powerful sounding bass guitars a few seconds later which also leads up to a heavier direction along with the guitar solos and leads being done in a very melodic fashion while the high pitched screams add in a touch of black metal.
When clean playing and acoustic guitars are utilized it gives the songs more of a progressive feeling while death metal growls can also be heard at times along with all of the tracks being very long and epic in length and stringed instruments can also be heard briefly as well as some tracks also bringing in clean vocals and all of the songs stick to a very slow musical direction and as the album progresses a brief use of whispers can also be heard.
On this recording Apathy Noir expands on their progressive style of doom and death metal by adding in more black metal elements this time around, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover melancholy, suicide, death and despair themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Apathy Noir and if you are a fan of black, doom/death and progressive metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Glass Delusion" "The Void Which Binds" and "Time And Tide". 8 out of 10.
