Mekigah are a band from Australia that plays an avant garde mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Autexousious" which will be released on August 21st by Aesthetic Death.
Ambient style soundscapes start off the album along with some avant garde elements a few seconds later and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly and on the second track heavy guitar riffs are added onto the recording and they add in elements of doom metal while also adding in dark sounding melodies.
Some of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and some tracks also get very experimental and ritualistic at times as well as adding in a small amount of acoustic guitars and as the album progresses clean singing can be heard briefly.
Mekigah plays a musical style that takes black, doom and avant garde metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover death themes.
In my opinion Mekigah are a very great sounding avant garde mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Eroding Will" "Zmatek" "A Vast Abyss" and "Rejection Nostalgia". 8 out of 10.
