Tehom are a band from Sweden that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "The Merciless Light" which will be released in April by Blood Harvest Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the album along with some ritualistic spoken word parts a few seconds later which leads up to a very fast and heavy direction that also uses a great amount of brutal blast beats and the vocals are in between black metal screams and death metal growls and a great amount of single note riffing is utilized.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they remain true to a dark style of death metal as well as having its melodic moments along with the music also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can also hear all of the musical instruments added onto the recording while the riffing also brings melodies into some parts of the songs and there is also a brief use of ritualistic male and female choir vocals and some of the tracks are long and epic in length and the faster riffs also use a great amount of tremolo picking and there is also a return of occult chanting and soundscapes on a later song.
Tehom plays a musical style that takes black and death metal and mixes it in with some ritualistic elements to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Chaos Gnosticism and Left hand Path themes and some of the lyrics seem to be inspired by the writings of Michael W. Ford.
In my opinion Tehom are a very great sounding blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Smoldering Vessels" "Hearth Of Perdition" and "Voices From the Darkside". 8/5 out of 10.
