Cenotafio are a duo from Chile that plays a mixture of black, doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Larvae Tedeum Teratos" which will be released in September by Blood Harvest Records.
Dark yet ritualistic soundscapes and thunder sounds start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs along with the vocals also being a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls.
All of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the music also brings in a great amount of 90's influences. Dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the growls also getting very cavernous sounding at times. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them as well as the guitar solos and leads being done in a very dark style when they are utilized and the ritualistic soundscapes also make a return on the later tracks. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover Death, Mysteries and Transcendence themes.
In my opinion Cenotafio are a very great sounding mixture of black, doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "La Apoptosis" and "Maleficae". 8 out of 10.
