Portugal's Alastor have returned with a new recording which continues the blackened style of thrash metal from their previous releases as well as adding in touches of power and speed metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "The Unholy Hordes" which will be released in June by Firecum Records.
Horror movie samples start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the solos and leads are done in a very old school extreme metal style. Vocals a re done in a very melodic yet aggressive 80's style along with some dark sounding melodies also being added into some of the guitar riffing.
Elements of thrash, speed and first wave black metal can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the songs taking an old school style and mixing it with a more modern d ay brutality.
On some of the tracks the guitar solos and leads also bring in more of a melodic style along with the vocals being completely different from past releases and more retro sounding as well as a couple of tracks also introducing clean playing onto the album, as the album progresses a brief use of ritualistic spoken word parts can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics are written in Portuguese and cover Satanism, Occultism, Hell, Death, War, Evil and Blasphemy themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Alastor and if you are a fan of blackened thrash metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Massacre Profano" "Forcas Do Inferno" "Com Mil Demonios" and "Morte". 8 out of 10.
