Barbarian are a band from Italy that has been featured before in this zine and plays a blackened mixture of speed and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Viperface" which will be released in August by Hells Headbangers Records.
Drum beats start off the album along with some 80's influenced riffing a few seconds later while melodies can be heard in the riffs at times. The songs also add in a great amount of first wave, thrash and speed metal elements as well as the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams and all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Melodic chants can also be heard on a few songs while the solos and leads also remain very true to an old school style. The songs also make an old school style sound more modern along with some blast beats also being utilized when the music speeds up and throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, the whole album also sticks to a heavier direction.
On this recording Barbarian remains true to the blackened mixture of thrash and speed metal that they have established on previous releases. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Barbarian and if you are a fan of blackened thrash and speed metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Viperface" "Charity Defiler" and "Regressive metal". 8 out of 10.
