Shalrath are a band from the United States that plays a blackened form of funeral doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 album "The Ebon Fortress".
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album along with some guttural growls which are mostly in the background and the music goes for more of a slow doom metal direction and all of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the music also gets more atmospheric as time goes on by.
Synths can be heard in certain sections of the recording and they also bring elements of dark ambient into the music and the album sticks to a slow, dark and heavy sound from beginning to end of the album with no fast playing or blast beats ever being utilized and the music evokes a very evil sounding atmosphere.
Shalrath creates a very interesting style of blackened funeral doom metal with their sound and mixing it with guttural death/grind vocals which enhances the heavy and dark feeling of the album, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover dark and occult themes.
In my opinion Shalrath are a very great sounding blackened funeral doom metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should c heck out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mother of Spiders" and "Lessons In Darkness". 8 out of 10.
