In A Forest Dark are a solo project from Portugal that plays a mixture of black, doom and gothic metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Buried Giant" which was released by WormHoleDeath Records.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody as well as the clear vocals also bringing in elements of gothic metal when they are utilized.
The slower sections of the songs are also very heavily rooted in doom metal while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the album also adding in a lot of black metal screams and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them
When the music speeds up on a couple of tracks a small amount of blast b eats can also be heard along with one track also being an instrumental and adding in nature sounds, most of the album also sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are inspired by Kazuo Ishiguro's novel "The Buried Giant".
In my opinion In A Forest Dark are a very great sounding mixture of black, doom and gothic metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Buried Giant" and "Forver Alone". 8 out of 10.
