Exoskelett/Self Titled/Dod Vag Records/2019 Full Length Review

Exoskelett  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2019  album  Which  was  released  by  Dod  Vag  Records.

A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem. Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  first  weave  black  metal  screaming  style  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

Most  of  the  music  is very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  while  also  sounding  very  modern  at  the  same  time.  Elements  of  thrash  and  heavy  metal  can  also  be  heard quite  a  bit throughout  the  recording.  A  decent  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  sticking  to  more  of  an  old  school  style.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  fast  riffs  also  utilize  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  while  one  track  also  adds  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  onto  the  recording  as  as  the  album  progresses  back  up  vocals  and  psychedelic  sounds  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  English  and  Swedish  and  cover  violence  and  darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  Exoskelett  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  heavy  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Born  Accursed"  "Manniskoskal"  and  "Lycanthropy".  8  out  of  10.

Exoskelett Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Exoskelett is the wicked siren beckoning your lonely boat to the profane shore. We are a five piece hell-black thrash metal band from Stockholm, Sweden.

2.How would you describe your musical sound?

I guess that’s up to the listener. We play metal. Maybe it’s black, maybe it’s thrash, but it is – and forever will be – metal.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

We explore the sour ground that we walk upon.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name ’Exoskelett’?

Like crayfish we rise at night.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We have never played live but we will do so in Stockholm, the third of June. It will be rememberable.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Except for the third of june we don’t have anything planned. But we will play live for sure. Everywhere.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and thrash metal?

So far we’ve only got good reviews, except for some Russian guys that really hated us.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

I actually like it the way it is, with us recording ourselves and so forth. (Maybe our guitarist that are mixing and mastering our tracks disagree). But of course, a label makes everything easier, so yeah, if someone asked us we happily would lay the dirty work in their hands so we could focus on the songwriting part.

9.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

I don’t know about a full length album, that’s kind of dull in a way. I like shorter releases. But that’s just me. Where we are heading? To an even darker and more grim place.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We listen to a lot of different music. Of course it’s a lot of metal that all of your readers already know about. But the Swedish act called Rein is fucking awesome, and she’s angry as hell. Check that out!

11.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?

That also differs in the band. I guess we all can agree that we think that satanism is just like all of the other religions – a bunch of rules and ideas made up by some dude that probably made a lot of money from it. And he, LaVey that is, is just a neo-liberal asshole, like any other neo-liberal asshole. Fuck him! Some of us in the band worship what we believe in, some don’t. But none of us is a part of any religion.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

Beer.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Stay tuned, we will come back – we always do!

Greetings

Exoskelett/Grind Your Bones To Dust/2016 EP Review

Exoskelett  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  ep  "Grind  Your  Bones  To  Dust".

A  very  dark  and  melodic  guitar  lead  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  heavy  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  up  to  some  very  aggressive  vocals  that  are  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  first  wave  of  black  metal  and  the  riffs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  elements  while still  having  a  modern  take  on  the  genre.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  at  times  while  the  songs  stick  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  paced  direction  while  keeping  everything  heavy  from  beginning  to  ending  of the  recording  and  on  the  last  track  there  is  a  brief  use  of  fast  playing  and  blast  beats.

Exoskelett  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  first  and  second  wave  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  thrash  to  create  a  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

In  my  opinion  Exoskelett  are  a  very   great  sounding  blackened  thrash  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Unholy  Alliance".  8  out  of  10.
