Bunker 66/Portraits of Dismay/Dying Victims Productions/2023 Compilation Album Review

 

  Bunker  66  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  had  plenty  of  music  reviewed  in  this  zine  over  the  years  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash,  speed  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  compilation  album  "Portraits  Of  Dismay"  which  was  released  by  Dying  Victims  Productions  and  consists  of  songs  that  where a part  of  a  few  splits  and  7  inches.

  A  very  heavy  and  aggressive  speed  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  era  as  well  as  sounding  very  modern  at  the  same  times. 

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  thrash  and  first  wave  black  metal  elements.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Melodies  are  also added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  some  melodic  screams,  singing  and  chants  at  times  and  on  other  songs  also  add  in  a  more  traditional  thrash  metal  style.  Throughout  the  compilation  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  back  up  shouts  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  as  well as  the  compilation  also  adding  in  some  Convulsed,  Carnivore,  Motorhead  and  Discharge  covers.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Metal,  Nuclear  War  and  Anti  Religion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Bunker  66  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  thrash,  speed  metal  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Global  Theronuclear  War'  "Hellish  Hordes  Rise"  "Army  Of  The  Dark"  and  "Panemonial  Storms".  8  out  of  10.

Bunker 66/Lucifuge/Of Lust And Night/Dying Victims Productions/2022 Split Album

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Italy's  Bunker  66  and  Germany's  Lucifuge  called  "Of  Lust  And  Night"  which  will b e   released  in  October  by  Dying  Victims  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Bunker  66  who  return  with  their  style  of  blackened  thrash  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  heavy  thrash  metal  influenced  style  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  first  wave  black  metal  style  vocals  along  with  the  music  also being  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  era,  elements  of  speed  metal  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  split  you  can  also h ear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  remaining  true  to  an  old  school  style,  their  whole  side  of  the  split  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  Motorhead's  "Doctor  Rock".  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nuclear  war  and  anti  religion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bunker  66  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Sulphurous  Lust".

  Next  up  is  Lucifuge  who  return  with  their  style  of  blackened  thrash  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  heavy  80's  influenced  riffing  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Vocals  are  mostly  first  wave  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  metal  elements  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast b eats  can  also  be  heard  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  at  times    and  throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Lucifuge  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  blackened  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Warriors  of  The  Night".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  i  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  blackened  thrash  emtal.  8  out  of  10.

Bunker 66/Hellcrash/Hell & Sulphur/Dying Victims Productions/2022 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Italy's  Bunker  66  and  Hellcrash  called  "Hell  &  Sulphur"  which  will  be  released  on  march  25th  by  Dying  Victims  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Bunker  66  who  return  with  a  blackened  thrash  metal  style.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  thrash  influenced  riffing  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Vocals a re  mostly  black  metal  screams  that  mix  both  the  1st  and  2nd  wave  era's  together.  Back  up  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  stick  to  more  of  an  early  80's  style.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  nuclear  war  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Bunker  66  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Hellcrash  who  return  with  their  blackened  style  of  speed  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  with  some  elements  of  thrash  metal  while  the  vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  along  with  some  demonic  voices.  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  era  as  well  as  some  melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in a  retro  style.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  and  the  lyrics  cover  apocalyptic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Hellcrash  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  speed  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  i  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  blackened  thrash  and  speed  metal.  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Germany's  Bunker  66  and  Scotland's  Vuil  called  "Metal  Sacrifice"  which  will  be  released on  December  17th  by  Ripping  Storm  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Bunker  66  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  black,  thrash,  speed  and  heavy  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  old  school  sound  along  with  some  blast  beats  a  few  seconds  later.  The  music  also  mixes  in  some  elements  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  along  with  the  vocals  being  first  wave  black  metal  style  screams  which  also a dds  in a   touch  of  the  second  wave  era.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  an  80's  style.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  war  themes.

  Next  up  is  Vuil  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of   thrash  and  speed  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy and  retro  sound  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  some  elements  of  thrash and  speed  metal. Vocals  are  done  in  a  very  rough  yet  melodic  80''s metal  style  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in a   decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's.

  Both  of  their  tracks  sound  like  they  could  of  easily  been  recorded  and  released  more  than  30  years  ago  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  style  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  evil  and  blasphemy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vuil  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  if  you  are a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Head  Basher".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  emtal.  8  out  of  10.

Whipstriker/Bunker 66/Four Deadly Bites/Ripping Storm Records/2019 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Brazil's  Whipstriker  and  Italy's  Bunker  66  called  "Four  Deadly  Bites"  which  will  be  released  on  December  17th  by  Ripping  Storm  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Whipstriker  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  black,  speed  metal  and  punk.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  amp  noises  before  going  into  a  heavier  speed  emtal  direction  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style.  Elements  of  punk,  d  beat  and  thrash  metal  are  also  added  into  the  music  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  style.

  The  second  track  also  brings  in  a  decent  mixture  of  both  mid  tempo  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  giving  the  80's  style  a  more  modern  atmosphere  and  both  of  the  tracks  also  stick  to  a  heavier  direction,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  war  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording from  Whipstriker  and  if  you  are  a fan  of  black,  thrash,  speed  metal  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Warfreaks'  Shellshock".

  Next  up  is  Bunker  66  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  black,  thrash and  speed  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  80's  influenced  old  school  sound  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on t heir  side  of  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  done  in  mostly  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  and  while the  music  is  rooted  in  the  past  it  still  has  a  modern  day  aggression.

  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  sticking  to more  an  an  80's  influenced  extreme  metal  direction  and  on  the  second  track  the  music  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  nuclear  war  and  urban  tale  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bunker  66  and  if  you  are  a  fan of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal,  you  should check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Winds  Of  Damnation".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding   split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Bunker 66/Inferno Interceptors/Split Material/Caligari Records/2014 Cassette Compilation Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  compilation  from  Bunker  66  which  shows  them  continuing  their  mixture  of  black  metal,  punk  and  thrash  with  the  cassette  being  released  in  2014  and  containing  their  2012  album  "Inferno  Interceptors"  and  their  side  of  the  split  with  Italy's  Barbarian.

  A  very  raw,  aggressive  and  old  school  thrash  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  some  elements  of  punk  rock  and  aggressive  80's  style  extreme  metal  vocals  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  bringing  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  elements  of  traditional  metal.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  added  into  the  music  they  continue  the  old  school  metal  tradition  that  is  a  very  huge  part  of  the  bands  musical  style  and  while  the  music  is  still  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  first  wave  of  black  metal  there  are  more  elements  of  thrash  and  punk  this  time  around  as  well  as  the  band  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  back  up  gang  shouts.

  All  of   the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  the  melodic  scream  that  was  very  common  in  first  wave  black  metal  show  up  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the y close  the  album  with  an  instrumental before  going  into  the  songs  from  the  split  which  are  also  in  the  same  direction  of  the  full  length  but  with  more  of  a  black  metal  vocal  approach  as  well  as  a  cover  of  Convulsed's  "Psychopharmax  Convulsions".

  Bunker  66  continue  their  mixture  of  black  metal,  punk  and  thrash  of  previous  recordings  while  also  getting  a  little  bit  more  melodic  and  adding  in  traditional  metal  elements  and  all  of  their  songs  sound  like  they  easily  could  of  been  recorded  and  released  in  the  1980's,  the  production  sound s very raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  nuclear  war,  urban  tales  and  occultism.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  compilation  from  Bunker  66  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal  punk  and  thrash,  you  should  check  out  this  cassette.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Overnight  Sacrifice"  "Storm  of  the  Usurper"  "We Guys  Are  From  Hell"  and  "Global  Thermonuclear  War".  8  out  of  10.

Bunker 66/Out Of The Bunker/Alive & Melting/Caligari Records/2014 Cassette Compilation Review

   Bunker  66  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  punk  and  thrash  and  this  is  a  review  of  the  first  cassette  compilation  released  by  Caligari  Records  in  2014  which  contains  their  2006  studio  ep  "Out  Of  The  Bunker"  and  live  2011  ep  "Alive  &  Melting".

  A  very  old  school  80's  style  thrash  metal  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  and  a  few  seconds  later  grim  black  metal  vocals  that  are  closer  to  the  first  wave  are  added  into  the  music  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  the  energy  of  punk  rock.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  in  the  primitive  ways  of  80's  extreme  metal  and  punk  and  after  awhile  melodic  screams  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  back  up  gang  shouts  ans  some  of  the  faster  parts  shows  the  band  adding  in  small  amounts  of  blast  beats  and  there  is  also  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  throughout  the  recording  and  most  of  the  songs  on  the  2nd  ep  are  live  versions  of  the  songs  that  are  present  on  the  first  recording  along  with  a  few  others  and  a  cover  of  N.M.E's  "Black  Knight".

  Bunker  66  sticks  mostly  to  an  80's  style  of  black  metal  which  they  also  mix  in  with  punk  and  thrash  as  well  as  having  no  modern  influences  for  the  past  25  years  which  leads  to  their  music  sounding  very  raw,  heavy,  and  retro,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  in  the  80's  tradition  while  the  lyrics  cover  metal,  nuclear  war,  urban  tales  and  occultism.

  In  my  opinion  Bunker  66  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  punk  and  thrash  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Blasphemous  Ignorance"  "Lurking  Demons  (Of  War)"  "Storm  of  The  Usurper"  and  "Black  Knight".  8  out  of  10.
