October Tide/Winged Waltz/Agonia Records/2016 CD Review

Sweden's  October  Tide  have  returned  with  a  new  album  that  continues  the  melodic  doom,  black  and  death  metal  mixtures  of  previous  recordings  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Winged Waltz"  which  was  released  by  Agonia  Records.

Clean  guitars  start  off  the  album  before going  into  more  of  a  heavy,  melodic  and  depressive  doom  metal  direction  and  after  awhile  death  metal  growls  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  melodic  fashion.

Most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  grim  black  metal s creams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  both  clean  and  heavy  parts  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  very  slow   musical  direction  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording  along  with  the  music  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's.   while  there  is  a  brief  use  of  blast  beats  on  the  last  track.

October  Tide  creates  an  album  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  the  melodic  doom/death  metal  direction  while  still  adding  in  a  touch  of  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  sadness  and  sorrow  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  October  Tide  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sleepless  Sun"  "Nursed  By  The  Cold"  and  "Coffins  Of  November".  8  out  of  10.

October Tide/Tunnel Of No Light/Pulverised Records/2013 CD Review

October  Tide  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  on  this  recording  of  being  a  mixture  of  black  and  melodic  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Tunnel  Of  No  Light"  which  was  released  by  Pulverised  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  playing  with  no  fast  drumming  or  blast  beats  being  present on  this  recording,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from   slow  to  mid  paced  riffs  that  combine  melodic  doom  metal  with  some  black  metal  influences  as  well  as  some  soft  and  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  doom  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  range  from  death  metal  growls  that  are  very  easy  to  understand  as  well  as  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy,  dark  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  October  Tide  and  if  you  are a  fan  of this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Our  Constellation"  "Watch The  Drowners"  and  "In  Hopeless Pursuit".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

October Tide/A Thin Shell/Candlelight Records/2010 CD Review

October Tide are a band from Sweden that has a history that dates back to the 90's and also has members of Katatonia and they play a style that I would describe as being melodic/black/doom metal and this is a review of their 2010 album "A Thin Shell" which will be released by Candlelight Records.

Drums are mostly slow to mid paced drumming with no fast playing or blast beats, while the bass playing follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars with its slow doomy riffing.

Rhythm guitars are mostly slow to mid paced doom/death riffs that have a small amount of black metal influence and contain a good amount of melody, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos, as for the acoustic guitars they use open chords and finger picking open chords that gives the music a very progressive feel.

Vocals are mostly deep doom/death growls that utilize a black metal edge, while the lyrics cover dark and depressive subjects, as for the production it sounds very professional and all of the musical instruments have a very good sound.

In my opinion October Tide are a very talented melodic doom/death metal band that will not disappoint fans of this genre with their new album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deplorable Request" "Blackness Devours" and "SCorned". RECOMMENDED BUY.
