This is a review of a split cassette between Ottawa, and Toronto, Canada's Acid Cross and Sardu called "Metalpunx From Beyond" which will be released in April by Von Frost Records and we will start off the review with Acid Cross a band that plays a mixture of black metal, punk, and thrash.
Their side of the split starts out with spoken word samples before going into a heavier direction along with some grim black metal screams and melodic riffing which also mixes in elements of punk and thrash and while the music has its roots in the 80's and 90's it still has a very modern feeling and all of the instruments sound powerful.
Throughout their side of the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads stick to an old school extreme metal style and element s of speed metal can also be heard at times and the music also always remains heavy, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover violence and occult themes.
In my opinion Acid Cross are a very great sounding mixture of black metal, thrash and punk and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Glowing Ones" and "Witchmaker".
Next up is Sardu a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of black metal, thrash and punk.
Their side of the split starts out with a bass guitar lead along with some traditional 80's metal/punk style guitar leads while the vocals are a mostly black metal screams that have elements of both the first and second wave style a s well as a few seconds of clean singing and they make a retro style sound modern.
A small amount of melody can be heard in the guitar riffing while the music also mixes in a great amount of thrash and speed metal influences along with a small amount of death metal growls and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the faster sections also bring in a decent amount of blast beats, the production sounds very heavy while the lyrics cover metal, punk and real life themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sardu and if you are a fan of black metal, punk, and thrash, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Total Devotion" and "Bird of Prey".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and if you are a fan of black metal, punk and thrash, you should check out this cassette. 8 out of 10.
