Excommunion are a band from Colorado Springs, Colorado that consists of members from Nightbringer and Maveth and plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Thronosis" which will be released in May by Dark Descent Records.
A very fast blackened death metal sound starts off the album along with a decent amount of blast beats while the vocals are mostly deep death metal growls will the riffs also utilize a great amount of dark sounding melodies and you can hear a touch of 90's era doom/death in the slower sections of the songs.
A decent amount of tremolo picking can be heard in the faster sections of the songs while all f the musical instruments sound very powerful and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very dark, atmospheric yet melodic fashion and all of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the album also always sticks to a very heavy musical direction.
Excommunion plays a style of blackened death metal that is mostly rooted in the 90's era of the genre and sticking to the style established on previous releases, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and Darkness themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Excommunion and if you are a fan of blackened death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nemesis" and "Blessed Is The Epoch Of Darkne". 8 out of 10.
