Ominous Shrine are a band from France that plays an occult and dissonant form of blackened death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album " Apothewsews Road" which was released by Goathorned Productions.
A very atmospheric and ritualistic intro starts off the album along with a small amount of tribal style drumming a minute later before going into a heavier direction which also utilizes a great amount of dark sounding melodies as w ell as introducing deep death metal growls onto the recording.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic fashion while the faster sections of the songs utilize a great amount of blast beats along with the slower sections of the songs mixing in elements of doom metal and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
A great amount of black metal influences can be heard throughout the recording along with some of the tracks being long and epic in length and both the riffs and leads also mix in a great amount of dissonant structures and as the album progresses clean playing can also be heard on some of the tracks and some songs also bring in a small amount of ritualistic chants.
Ominous Shrine plays a style of occult blackened death metal that is very ritualistic and dissonant sounding, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Left Hand Path, Death, Luciferian and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Ominous Shrine are a very great sounding dissonant, occult blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "V.I.T.R.I.O.L" "Macrocosme" and "Ain Soph Aur". 8/5 out of 10.
