Cosmic Putrefaction is a solo project from Italy that plays a blackened form of death metal with some atmospheric, progressive, avant garde, grindcore and doom metal elements and this is a review of his 2020 album "The Horizon Towards Which Splendour Withers" which will be released in May by I, Voidhanger Records.
A very fast and brutal sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats while the vocals are mostly deep yet guttural death metal growls. Black metal screams can also be heard at times while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the riffs also have their dissonant moments.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the slower songs of the songs also add in elements of doom metal. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with some of the faster sections also adding in the brutality and raw aggression of grindcore.
When clean playing is utilized it also gives the songs more of a progressive feeling along with some spoken word parts also being used briefly as well as the music also having its atmospheric and avant garde movements, clean playing, pianos and symphonic elements can also be heard briefly and a couple of tracks are also very long and epic in length. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness, horror and occultism themes.
In my opinion Cosmic Putrefaction plays a very great sounding blackened death emtal style with some progressive, avant garde, atmospheric, symphonic, grindcore and doom metal elements and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Glooming Murk Of His Telluric Shrieks" and "Utterance Of The Fall Of Man". 8 out of 10.
