GraveRipper are a band from Indiana that has been featured before in this zine under their previous name "Death Ensemble" and this is a review of their self released 2020 ep "Complete Blinding Darkness".
A very heavy thrash metal sound starts off the ep while the faster sections of the music also bring in a great amount of blast beats. Vocals are done in an aggressive screaming style along with the music also bringing in elements of black and death metal as well as being heavily rooted in the 80's and 90's style.
The riffs also add in a great amount of melody along with some of the faster riffing adding in some tremolo picking. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain very true to an old school style will the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody as well as a small amount of slow and mid tempo parts also being used briefly and all of the songs also stick to a heavier direction.
On this recording GraveRipper goes for more of a faster combination of black, death and thrash metal as well as making an old school style sound very modern again. The production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover dark violent themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Grave Ripper and if you are a fan of black, death and thrash metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "A Swift Kick To The Teeth". 8 out of 10.
