Skaphos are a band from France that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "Cult Of Uzura" which will be released in may by transcending Obscurity Records.
A very apocalyptic sound starts off the album along with a brief use of ritualistic chants before going into a very fast and brutal direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing and the vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Clean playing, synths and tribal style percussion can also be heard briefly along with most of the album also bringing in s very modern style as well as one song also being an acoustic guitar instrumental before returning back to a more brutal style and as the recording progresses a small mount of clear vocals are also utilized.
Skaphos plays a style of blackened death metal that is very different as well as being very brutal at the same time. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover The Abyss and Cosmic Horror themes.
In my opinion Skaphos are a very great sounding blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cult Of Uzura" "Abyssal Tower" "The Alchemist" and "All Shall Be Now Itself The Sea". 8 out of 10.
