Matterhorn are a band from Switzerland that plays a mixture of black, death, thrash and speed metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Crass Cleansing" which will be released in June by Iron Bonehead Productions.
Clean yet distorted guitars start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the faster sections of the songs also use a great amount of blast beats along with some 80's era death metal style growling that is very easy to understand as well as the music also bringing in a great amount of fist wave black metal influences.
All of the music is very heavily rooted in the 80's era while the solos and leads also remain very true to an old school style along with the music also mixing in elements of thrash and speed metal and some songs also bring in a small amount of back up gang vocals as well as the music also bringing in a great amount of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost influences and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and as the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts can also be heard and some of the riffs also bring in a small amount of melody.
Matterhorn plays a musical style that goes back to the 80's era of black, death, speed and thrash metal when the styles where still very much related to each other, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Matterhorn are a very great sounding mixture of black, death, thrash and speed metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Violent Success" "Parabol Dreams" and "Of All I Was". 8 out of 10.
