Skumstrike are a band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that plays a mixture of black, thrash metal and crust punk and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Execution Void" which will be released on February 14th by Caligari Records.
Synths start off the ep along with a brief use of spoken word samples before going into a very fast musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. The music also mixes in elements of thrash metal, d beat and crust punk and the vocals are mostly black metal screams.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The music also mixes both 80's and 90's influences together but keeps it modern at the same times as well as the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody into some parts of the recording, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they also stick to more of an old school style.
Skumstrike plays a musical style that takes black, thrash metal and crust punk and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover dark and violent themes.
In my opinion Skumstrike are a very great sounding mixture of black, thrash metal and crust punk and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Filth" and "Thousand Lies". 8 out of 10.
