Hellion are a band from Columbia that plays a blackened form of thrash metal and this is a review of their 2016 demo "The Rising of The Wizards" which was re-issued in 2019 by Awakening Records.
A very fast and old school thrash metal sound starts off the demo along with a decent amount of blast beats. A small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly black metal screams that mixes both the first and second wave eras together.
Most of the music is heavily rooted in the 80's while still capturing a more modern brutality. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain true to an old school style and all of the music also sticks to a heavier direction.
Hellion plays a musical style that goes back to the 80's era of black and thrash metal. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover witchcraft, metal, lust and alcohol themes.
In my opinion Hellion are a very great sounding mixture of black and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Witchcraft" "When The Witches Begin To Sing" and "Metal Maniacs". 8 out of 10.
