Morbyda are a band from Germany that plays a blackened form of speed metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "Under The Spell" which will be released in June by Dying Victims Productions.
Tortured voices start off the album before going into more of a heavier 80's influenced direction while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic yet old school style. Vocals are mostly first wave style black metal screams while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Elements of speed metal are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording while some of the clear vocals add in more of an 80's traditional metal style. Blast beats are also added into some of the faster sections of the album along with the album also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, a couple of tracks also adds in a small amount of clean playing and a few songs are also long and epic in length.
Morbyda plays a musical style that goes back to the early and mid 80's era of black and speed metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover occultism, darkness and evil themes.
In my opinion Morbyda are a very great sounding blackened speed metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Evil" "The Curse" and "Morbid Ways Of Dying". 8 out of 10.
