Emperor Of Myself are a band from Greece that plays a gothic form of blackened death metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 album "If It Bleeds You Can Kill It".
The album starts out with some dark and melodic doom metal guitar riffs and drums and then blackened death metal growls are added into the music along with a mixture of clean and heavy parts and the bass guitars also bring a very powerful sound to the music and at times melodic vocals are added into the music as well as some depressive sounding guitar leads.
As the album progresses a lot of 90's doom, gothic and black metal elements are added into the music and the album utilizes a great amount of melancholic and dark elements as well as bringing back an underrated genre from the 90's and the band sticks to the more underground side of this musical genre and does not incorporate any of the more mainstream elements that bands of this genre started using regularly towards the end and the female vocals which are used briefly on one song bring an operatic feeling to the recording.
One of the main strengths this record possesses is its ability to mix heaviness with melody and melancholic elements and the gothic elements do not take over this record and it is more in a metal direction than a gothic direction while still utilizing some influences from that genre.
Song lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound for being a self released recording and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this album.
In my opinion Emperor of Myself are a very great sounding gothic blackened doom/death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Your Dreams Your Promises" "Temple Of Darkness" and "My Despair". RECOMMENDED BUY.
