Comatose are a band from Philippines that plays a blackened mixture of death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "The Unhallowed Congregation" which was released by Malevolent Sound.
A very heavy yet brutal sound starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark, chaotic, melodic and old school style style along with the music being very heavily rooted in the 90's Brazilian style.
Vocals are mostly death metal growls mixed in with a few black metal screams while the songs also mix in elements of thrash metal. Evil sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them and the whole recording also sticks to a heavier direction.
Comatose plays a musical style that takes a 90's form of blackened death metal and mixes it with thrash metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Death, Darkness, Satanism and Horror themes.
In my opinion Comatose are a very great sounding blackened mixture of death and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Scrolls Of Profanity" "The Unhallowed Congregation" "Eternal life Eternal Lies" and "Condemned To Darkness". 8 out of 10.
