Nightfell are a band from Portland, Oregon that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays an atmospheric mixture of black, doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "A Sanity Deranged" which will be released in September by 20 Buck Spin.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the slower sections of the songs also bring in elements of doom metal. Vocals also bring in a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams as well as some of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark and melodic style as well as one track also adding in a brief use of background whispers and spoken word parts, clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
On this recording Nightfell remain true to their atmospheric mixture of black, doom and death metal from their previous release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover death, loss, mourning and grief themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nightfell and if you are a fan of atmospheric black, doom and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "(As Now)We Must Succumb" and "Sanity Deranged". 8 out of 10.
