This is a review of a split ep between Brazil's Whipstriker and Canada's Ice War which was released by Helldprod Records and we will start off the review with Whipstriker who return with a mixture of black, thrash, speed, heavy metal and punk.
His side of the split starts out with a very heavy and old school sound that is heavily influenced by the NWOBHM. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody and d beats are also added into the fast and mid tempo sections of the songs.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the music also adding in a decent amount of first wave, thrash and speed metal elements. When guitar solos and leads ar e utilized they also remain very true to an 80's style, tremolo picking is also added into some of the faster riffing. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover war themes.
In my opinion this another great sounding recording from Whipstriker and if you are a fan of black, thrash, speed, heavy metal and punk, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Rot in Trench.
Next up is Ice War a solo project that plays a mixture of speed and heavy metal.
His side of the split starts out with some 80's style riffing while the faster sections of the songs also bring in elements of speed metal. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the vocals being done in more of a clean traditional metal style as well as some back up shouts also b eing utilized at times.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a ver y melodic yet old school style along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the music also adding in a lot of German influences. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover anti government, anti capitalism and native issues.
In my opinion Ice War is a very great sounding mixture of speed and heavy metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Grip of Death".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of black, thrash, speed and heavy metal. 8 out of 10.
