Karloff are a band from Germany that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a mixture of black, death metal and punk and this is a review of their 2021 album "The Appearing" which will be released in July by Dying Victims Productions.
Tragic sounding keyboards start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later before going into a heavier punk rock influenced direction. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are also done in a very angry sounding blackened metal direction.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Some of the riffs also bring in the heaviness of death metal along with some of the vocals also adding in hardcore style shouts and all of the songs also avoid the use of any guitar solos and leads.
On this recording Karloff takes black and death metal and mixes it with hardcore punk to create something that is very different. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover misanthropy and nihilism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Karloff and if you are a fan of black, death metal and hardcore punk, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "My Misanthropic Kingdom" "Nihilistik Reaktion" and "A Violent Winter". 8 out of 10.
