Actus Septem are a band from Greece that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "The Catechism Of Death" which will be released in May by GS Productions.
Spoken word samples start off the album before going into a heavier direction while elements of doom metal are also added into the slower sections of the songs. The riffs also add in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies along with the solos and leads also adding in some melodies and blast beats are also utilized when the music speeds up.
Vocals are a mixture of deep death metal growls and black metal screams while a great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Some of the riffing also shows some influences of the classic Greek black metal style of the 90''s but mixed in with a more modern doom metal style.
Most of the songs also stick to a very slow yet heavy style along with one of the tracks also introducing melodic vocals onto the album as well as some of the faster sections adding in a small amount of tremolo picking when they are utilized, as the album progresses a brief use of keyboards can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism, Anthropocentrism and Anti Religion themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Actus Septem and if you are a fan of blackened doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Before the Devil" "Waves And Skies" and "Inner". 8 out of 10.
