De Profundis/The Gospel of Rot/2025 EP Review

 

  United  Kingdom's  De  Profundis  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  ep  "The  Gospel  Of  Rot".

  A  very  heavy  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a   great  amount  of  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in a   decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in t he  90';s  era.

  Elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  touches  of  thrash  metal,  the  whole  ep  also  sticks  to a   heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  De  Profundis  goes  back  to  the  90's  era  of  black,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  rebellion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  De  Profundis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Corruption"  and  "Subtraction".  8  out  of  10.

  United  Kingdom's  De  Profundis  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  progressive,  technical  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "The  Corruption  Of  Virtue"   which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Transcending  Obscurity  Records.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast b eats  can  also be  heard  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  death  metal  growls  and  blackened  screams  are  also  utilized  at  times.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  technical  style.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  progressive  moments  as  well  as  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  bringing  in  elements  of  doom  metal  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  De  Profundis  goes  for  more  of  a  brutal,  technical  and  progressive  style  of  blackened  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover anti  religion  and  anti  authoritarianism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  De  Profundis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  brutal,  technical  and  progressive  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ritual  Cannibalism"  "Weaponised  Rape"  "Religious  Cancer"  and  "The  Sword  Verses".  8  out  of  10.

  United  Kingdom's  De  Profundis  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  progressive  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "The  Blinding  Light  Of  Faith"  which  was  released  by  Transcending  Obscurity  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  blast  beats  a  few  seconds  latter  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  blackened  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  as  well  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  at  times  the  music  gets  very  progressive.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  samples  as  well  as a  couple  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  acoustic  guitars  and  jazz  elements  can  also  be  heard  as  the  album  progresses  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing.

  De  Profundis  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  progressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  anti  Abrahamic  religion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  De  Profundis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Obsidian  Spires"  "Bastard  Sons  of  Abraham"  and  "Bringers  Of  Light".  8  out  of  10.

De Profundis/Decayed 2007-2017/Zero Tolerance Magazine/CD Review

  De  Profundis  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that h as  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  progressive  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  compilation  album  "Decayed  2007-2017"  which  was  released  with  the  79th  issue  of  Zero  Tolerance  Magazine.

 A  very  heavy  yet  technical  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  some  death metal  growls  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of t he  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  when t he  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  Black  metal  screams a re  also  added  into  certain  sections of  the  recording  along  with  the  slow  riffs  being  very  heavily  influenced  by  doom  metal  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

   The  fretless  bass  gives  the  tracks  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  and  some  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  acoustic  guitars  along  with  some  jazz  elements  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  a  few  seconds  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Throughout  the  compilation  De  Profundis  brings  out  a  very  progressive  style  of  blackened  death  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  negativity,  solitude,  despondency  and  contemplation  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  De  Profundis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kult  Of  The  Orthodox" "A  Strange  Awakening"  "Silent  Gods"  and  "Nihilism  Vortex".  8  out  of  10.

  De  Profundis  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  had  albums  reviewed  in  this  zine  before  and  plays  a  progressive  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Kingdom  of  the  Blind"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Wicker  Man  Recordings.

  a  very  dark,  distorted  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  dominate  throughout  the  recording  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  more  more  of  a  progressive  and  extreme  metal  sound  that  uses  a  good  mixture  of  both  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  Blast  beats  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  lot  of  technical  elements  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  acoustic  guitars  are  utilized  they  give  the  tracks  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  and  spoken  word  parts  are  used  briefly  in  some  of  the  tracks  and  there  are  also  some  jazz  influences  being  utilized  at  times.

  De  Profundis  creates  another  album  that  is  very  progressive  and  technical sounding  as  well  as  sticking  to  their  black,death  and  doom  metal  roots,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics cover  negativity,  solitude,  despondency  and  contemplation  themes.

De Profundis/Frequencies/Terrorizer/2014 EP Review

  De  Profundis  are  a  band  from  England  that had  their  previous  album  reviewed  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  blackened  and  progressive  mixture  of  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  ep  "Frequencies"  which  was  released  by  Terrorizer  magazine.

  A  very  heavy,  dark  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  adding  in  brutal  death  blast  beats  along  with  some  growls,  screams  and  technical  guitar  riffing  which  also  leads  up  to  a  more  progressive  death  metal  direction  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  added  into  the  music  along  with  some  powerful  bass  lines.

  A  More  progressive,  melodic  and  technical  musical  direction  is  present  on  this  recording  while  the  black  metal  influences  of  the  previous  recording  are  still  a  very  strong  part  of  the  bands  musical  style  and  they  also  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  last  song  is  a  cover  of  Death's  "Crystal  Mountain".

  De  Profundis  concentrate  less  on  the  black  and  doom  metal  element s of  previous  recordings  and  go  for  a  more  progressive  and  technical  style  of  death  metal  this  time  around  while  still  having  a  small  amount  of  their  past  in  their  newer  material,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  negativity,  solitude,  despondency,  and  contemplation.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  De  Profundis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  technical  and  progressive  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep,.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Strange  Awakening"  and  "Crystal  Mountain".  8  out  of  10.

De Profundis/The Emptiness Within/Kolony Records/2013 CD Review

  De  Profundis  are  a  band  from  the  U.K  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  with  some  elements  of  jazz  and  progressive  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "The  Emptiness  Within"  which  was  released  by  Kolony  Records.

  Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  drumming  with  some  fast  playing  and  blast  beats  being  present on  this  recording,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.  as  for  the  synths  they  bring  a  very  dark,  atmospheric  and  progressive  sound  to  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  black  and  doom  metal  together  to   create  a  sound  of  their  own  with  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  being  thrown  into  the  riffing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  doom  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  they  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords  to b ring  elements  of  jazz  and  progressive  music  to  the  recording  as  well  as  using  a  small  amount  of  guitar  slides.

  Vocals  range  from  deep  death  metal  growls,  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  and  clean  singing,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  philosophical  and  poetic  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  De  Profundis  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  progressive,  doom  and  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Silent  Gods"  "Twisted  Landscapes"  and  "Unbroken  (A  Morbid  Embrace)".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
