Vulcano/Epilogue/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Brazil's  Vulcano  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2024  album  "Epilogue".

  Clean  playing  and  spoken  words  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Elements  of  thrash  metal  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style.

  A  lot  of  the  album  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  era  while  also  sounding  very  modern  at  the  same  time.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast b eats  can  be  heard  along  with  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  a  touch  of  early  era  death  metal  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  remaining  very  true  to  an  old  school  metal  style.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

 On  this  recording  Vulcano  update  their  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  for  the  modern  era.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vulcano  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "At  The  Dawn"  and  "The  Renegade".  8 out  of  10.

Vulcano/Bloody Vengeance/Greyhaze Records/2015 CD Re-Issue Review

  Vulcano  are  a  band  from  Brazil  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  has  a  history that  goes  back  more  than  30 years  and  are  also  one  of  the  first  bands  that  play  a mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1986  album  "Bloody  Vengeance"  which  will  be  re-issued  on  May  18th  by  Greyhaze  Records.

  A  very  fast,  heavy  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  early  death  metal  style  growls  that  are  very  easy  to  understand  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  back  up  gang  shouts  and  at  time  thrash  style  screams  can  be  heard  and  the  solos  and  leads  remain  to  true  a  raw  and  underground  80's  metla  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  while  the  music  is  very  much  in  a  first  wave  black  metal  direction  it  brings  in  more  of  a  heavier  feeling  than  those  early  bands  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  beginning  days  of  death  metal   while  the  thrash  elements  that  where  very dominant  are  still  a  very  huge  part  of  all  of  the  songs.

  Vulcano  where  very  much  ahead  of  their  time  on  this  album  taking  the  rawest  and  heaviest  style  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  to  create  a  recording t hat  had  a  very  huge  influence  on  both  future  black  and  death  metal  bands,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Death  Metal  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  a  very  great  sounding  and  if  you  are  interested  in  the  roots  of  both  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Spirits  Of  Evil"  Death  Metal"  and  "Bloody  Vengeance".  8/5  out  of  10.

Vulcano/Wholly Wicked/PRC Music/2015 CD Review

  Vulcano  are  a  band  from  Brazil  that h as  been  around  for  more  than  30  years  and  where  one  of  the  first  bands  to  ever  mix  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  together  in  that  country  and  are  considered  a  very  huge  influence  on  the  second  wave  black  metal  bands  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Wholly  Wicked"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  May  by  PRC  Music.

  a  very  dark  and  heavy  thrash  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  growling  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  that  are  very  close  to  80's  style  death  metal  while  the  production  gives  the  music  more  of  a  modern  sound  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful  while  the  leads  and  leads  bring  in  a  very  raw  and  old  school  extreme  metal  sound  to  the  recording.

  At  times  the  vocals  go  for  more  of  an  aggressive  style  of  thrash  metal  with  some  of  the  screams  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  into  some  of  the  tracks  while  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Vulcano  creates  an  album  that  is  more  in  the  extreme  style  of  death/thrash  while  some  elements  of  black  metal  are  still  present  on  their  sound  but  nowhere  near  their  earlier  stuff  but  still  very  good  quality  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Paganism,  Death  and  Evil  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vulcano  are a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  interested  in  hearing  some  of  the  bands  that  have  been  a  huge  influence  on  the  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pentagram"  "Daughters  Of  Pagan  Rituals"  "Wholly  Wicked"  and  "Blowing  Death".  8  out  of  10.
