1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
We are Sordid Dogs, a Greek black metal-punk band with 80’s influenced sound, and, up to now, we have released one EP called “Necropunk”
2.Recently you have released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
We strived to produce the kind of sound that would be best described as dirty and strident, so that it would represent who we are as accurately as possible.
3.Most of the band members also play in other bands, what is it that you are able to do with this band that you are not able to do in your other groups?
We felt that we needed to play in such a manner that would be reminiscent of the sound we love and that influenced us personally back when we were still kids. There is a dose of nostalgia behind the formation of this band.
4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Sordid Dogs discuss and critique sociopolitical issues through their lyrics
We are residents of this country during an era when the economical crisis has affected every single thing ( ). It is only natural that we are disturbed and deeply affected by it.
However, as far as SPLITs are concerned, (depending on the band we are collabing with) we are open to other lyrical topics, apart from the ones mentioned earlier, such as nuclear war, hell, death, metal, Satan.. You know.. the usual!
5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Sordid Dogs'?
Again, the meaning behind sordid dogs is influenced by nowadays’ living conditions.
There are several slang metaphors found if we were to translate the name in other languages, the romanticized one referring to those who party hard and live a so-called street life, and the most “savage” of all referring to being homeless; in parts of the capitalist west, the homeless are considered by some to be stray dogs, “toxic” for society.
Metaphorically speaking, a sordid dog is an urban rat, almost the same size as a small canine, that lives in filthy, toxic sewers. Essentially it’s a hybrid of the 2 animals that you can easily come across in a big urban center (therefore the antisocial punk rat on our cover as the protagonist)
6.Has the band been able to do any live shows yet and also do you have any gigs scheduled in the future?
Well, we all reside in different cities and each one of us has their own responsibilities. However, we have discussed the possibility of playing live in the future, which is something we would love to do. Sordid dogs’ configuration works just right for performing live, more so than any than any other of our bands.
7.On the ep you had done a 'Hellhammer' cover and also have a cover of a 'Toxic Holocaust' song on an upcoming split, what was the decision behind doing your own version of these days?
It is as tribute to the bands we used to listen to, and continue to do so with unchanged feelings. As mentioned earlier, Sordid Dogs embrace nostalgia; covering metal and punk songs we love is going to be a frequent occurrence.
8.You are going to be a part of a split with 'Abigail', what are your thoughts on this legendary band?
It was something we had been discussing among us since we had been recording Necropunk. So, one day we email Abigail and we get an immediate positive response. Apart from being fans of the band for a long time now, we also adore the Japanese scene. Personally, I am infatuated with 80’s and early 90’s Japanese punk, as well as 90’s Japanese metal. Abigail are awesome and down to earth dudes, who have embraced the metal lifestyle for many years now. Of course it’s an honor to us to have the opportunity to release a Split with them.
9.Can you tell us a little bit more about 'Chainsaw Distro'?
Chainsaw Distro is the most metal punk underground label to be found in Greece; it is devoted to backing “savage” and “dirty” bands like us with a passion.
We felt supported since day 1 and would like to say a big thank you for that.
10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal and punk?
It has been very positive up to now. Personally, I can’t complain, I strongly believe that when the time comes for the official release of our cassettes, the feedback is going to be even better.
11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Filthgrinder just released the third full-length with Human Serpent and he is already working on new material with them.
Purgatory just released a debut album with Sorgelig and is currently working hard on new material to be released with Isolert.
12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
In general, we plan on keeping the band on a productive path. Apart from the split with Abigail, a split with the Brazilian D beat maniax BESTHOVEN is going to be announced in the following days, to be released by Chainsaw Distro.
In summer, we plan on recording our first full length album, scheduled to be released by the end of 2019.
13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on the music of 'Sordid Dogs'?
Sordid Dogs are heavily influenced by 80’s metal and punk music, as well as by bands such as Discharge, Venom, Hellhamer/Celtic Frost, Amebix, Motorhead, Bulldozer, Onslaught, Bathory, Sodom, G.I.S.M, Human Gas, English Dogs, Broken Bones, Misfits, (old) Slayer, GBH and many more.
