1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new split?
We’ve been working on new songs for our third full-length album. We already have eight songs ready, as we speak. The plan is to make ten brand new songs. This is going to be a concept album about the dark episodes of the history of Zielona Góra, our hometown. I think that his album may surprise some people. Apart from this, we’ve been playing some live shows here and there, which is always pleasant for us.
2.Recently you have released a split, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on your side of the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
I would say that we decided to go back to our roots on this one. We made the songs simpler, more straight-forward than on our sophomore album. Additionally, we decided to record one of the songs from our “Tunes of Hell and Alcohol” demo anew. However, it’s not that we’ve regressed or something like that. We just thought that since this is not another full-length, we may chill-out a little bit and do some songs with a more laidback and rock’n’roll attitude, as we used to do at the very beginning of our existence.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
If you’re asking about the split it’s mainly dark, sometimes perverted, sex-related topics. For example, “The Tomb of Desire” is about Vera Renczi, also known as the Romanian Black Widow. This woman killed more than 30 of her lovers and her own son. Not only that, but she kept their bodies in her cellar, where she would go every night, drink wine and chat with them. Some urban legends state that she had sex with those corpses as well. The second song is just about hooking up with some female stranger at a party and then fucking her brains out all night. And I think that the title “Sadistic Whorefuck” says it all. In general, for some years now I’ve tried to focus on the darker side of human nature in my lyrics. As you can see, “love” can be one of them too.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Warfist'?
There’s no larger philosophy behind this. We just wanted a cool sounding, badass name and that’s it. One of us came up with Warfist during some party and that was it.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
There were a few cool shows over these years. I always like to come back to Szczecin. The atmosphere in this city is totally awesome and we have a lot of good friends there. We also like playing in Gdańsk, Poznań and Wrocław. And we also like to go back with our memories to our live shows in Germany, especially in Berlin, Erfurt and Nüenberg. I also have to mention our show in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic and crazy days we spent in Crimea at Metal Heads’ Mission Festival in 2008. As for the latter part of your question, Warfist’s stage performance is nothing more than violent metal aggression.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We have a few single shows booked in Poland and some that are still in progress. However, no plans for a larger tour so far. Maybe after the third album, who knows.
7.Recently you where a part of a split with 'Exxcidim', what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording?
I’ve known Excidium a long time before the split. I’ve always liked their music, so when Greg of Godz Ov War approached me and said that Excidium has some new songs and they would be a perfect match for the split with us, I told him to send me the stuff and I’ll gladly give it a listen. It appeared that the stuff is totally awesome and it fits our songs like a glove! There was no other way than to make this split happen! I really like the way they mix the German thrash influences with some bits from the underrated US bands. Total support! Btw, getting back to your previous question, we’re planning to play a gig together in April, so hell’s going to be unleashed that night!
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of black and thrash metal?
It’s been surprisingly positive, as far as the “Metal to the Bone” feedback goes. The album received many positive reviews and the news about the band has spread to some new places… The credit for this should go to Greg of Godz Ov War, who did a remarkable job promoting this album. It’s really great to have this guy on your side because he knows what he’s doing and he’s all into metal.
9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Supreme Lord is on hold because Reyash has been involved in some other activities and has very little time to sacrifice for the band. Spirit Crusher, the band where our drummer Pavulon plays, has finished recording their debut EP. Hopefully, it’s going to be out soon. I had a chance to hear some of the songs and they’re really cool.
10.When can we expect another full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
It’s very difficult to say, but I would aim for late winter/early spring 2019. Maybe a bit sooner… The musical direction is, always has been and always will be METAL. However, this time some people may be surprised with our forthcoming stuff. We’ve decided not to limit ourselves to black/thrash metal, so there will be some death metal, heavy metal or even doom metal influences. As I said, so far we have eight new songs ready and they’re pretty diversified, yet consistent. It’s a little bit too early to say anything more, so I’ll end here.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Nowadays I mainly listen to some old stuff, as well as to new bands that keep it old school. The new bands that have caught my attention recently are Malokarpatan, Burning Witches or Candle. I also love the latest albums of Urn, Destroyer 666 (I’m talking about “Wildfire”, not the latest mediocre EP), Desaster, Whipstriker… There haven’t been so many good black/thrash metal albums lately, which is sad. Nevertheless, these bands I’ve mentioned still hold the banner high! I think that the bands that can be the most inspiring nowadays are those that don’t limit themselves to the metal genres but know how to mix them. You know, like back in the 80s, where there were basically no boundaries between heavy, black, death, doom or thrash metal. That’s the best way to make music that still sounds fresh nowadays, in my opinion.
12.What are some of your non musical interests?
One of the main ones is history. Humanity’s past has so many interesting things to tell and some of them are really dark and terrifying. Stories like that have been my main inspiration for creating both lyrics and music over the past two years. Besides, history is very crucial to avoid making the same mistakes over and over again. Apparently, humanity is too stupid to do that. Need some proof? Just read some latest news.
