Bewitcher/Spell Shock/Century Media Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Portland,  Oregon's  Bewitcher  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Spell  Shock"  which  will  be  released  on  September  27th  by  Century  Media  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  speed  metal  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  classic  metal  style  and t he  vocals  are mostly  first  wave  black  metal  screams.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  album  also  mixes  in a   lot  of  thrash  metal  elements.  A  lot  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  era  as  will  as  being  very  modern  at  the  same  times  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  back  up  shouts  and  one  of  the  songs  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing,  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Paganism  and  Hedonism  themes

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bewitcher  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  blackened  thrash  and  speed  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Starfire  Maelstrom"  "Out  Against  The  Law"  "We  Die  in Dust"  and  "Ride  of  The  Iron  Fox".  8 out  of  10.

Bewitcher/Under The Witching Cross/Shadow Kingdom Records/2019 CD Review

  Portland,  Oregon's  Bewitcher  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Under  The  Witching  Cross"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Shadow  Kingdom  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  ritualistic  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  that  mix  both  the  first  and  second  wave  style  together  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  elements  of  thrash  and  speed  metal.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  and  early  90's  while  also  sounding  very  modern  at  the  same  time.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style.

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  energy  of  punk  rock  along  with  some  melody  also  being  utilized  at  times.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  one  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  and  leads  also  showing  an  influence  of  traditional  metal  in  some  part  of  the  music,  the  closing  track  also  introduces  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  which  is  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  hedonism,  heathenism,  witchcraft  and  satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bewitcher  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Savage  Lands  Of  Satan"  "Heathen  Woman"  and  "Rome  Is  On  Fire".  8  out  of  10.

Bewitcher/Too Fast For The Flames/Shadow Kingdom Records/2019 EP Review

  Portland,  Oregon's  Bewitcher  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  black  and  speed  metal  mixture  of  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review of  their  2019  ep  "Too  Fast  For  The  Flames"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Shadow  Kingdom  Records.

  A  very  fast  speed  metal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  adding  in  some  first  wave  style  black  metal  vocals.  The  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  early  80's  thrash  metal  while  also  being  very  modern  at  the  same  time  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well as  all  of  the  instruments  sounding  very  powerful.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  remaining  true  to  an  old  school  style  and  the  close  the  ep  with  a  cover  of  W.A.S.P's  "Show  No  Mercy"  which  also  adds  in    a  small  amount  of  clean  vocals.  The  Production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  metal  and  hedonism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  from  Bewitcher  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  speed metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Too  Fast  For  The  Flames".  8  out  of  10.

Bewitcher/Self Titled/Divebomb Records/Diabolic Might Records/2016 CD Review

  Bewitcher  are  a  band  from  Portland,  Oregon  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2016  album  which  will  be  released  on  August  18thas  a  joint  effort  between Divebomb  and  Diabolic  Might  Records.

  Horror  movie  style  synths  start  off  the album  and  after  a  minute  the  music  goes  into  more  of  an  old  school  speed/thrash  metal  direction  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  that  have  more  of  a  first  wave  feeling  to  them  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  blast  beats  can  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  While  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  it  still  sounds  very  modern  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to an  old  school  speed/heavy  metal  direction  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  on  some of  the  later  tracks  the  vocals  start  utilizing  a  little bit  of  melody  and  the  whole  album  also  remains  very  true  to  a  very  heavy  yet    retro  musical  style.

  Bewitcher  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  80's  black  metal  and  mixes  it  in  with  speed  and  thrash  metal  while  also  updating  the  sound  for  modern  days,  the  production  sounds  very professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Hedonism,  Witchcraft,  Satan  and  Metal  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Bewitcher  are  a  very  great  sounding  retro  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bewitcher"  "Wild  Blasphemy"  "Harlots  Of  Hell"  and  "In  The  Night  (The  Cult  Will  Rise)".  8  out  of  10.
