Voidmaker Interview

 

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Voidmaker is basically a vehicle that combines blackened death/thrash and huge, cosmic themes into a neat little package. We think that it has the gnarly riffs, sweet solos, brutal vocals, and cool lyrical content to be accessible and engaging for most metal fans.  

2.So far you have released a full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

We knew we wanted some of it to be very fast and thrashy - that would be a song like "Terminus" or "Terraforming the Red Planet." Other pieces we wanted to lurk a bit more and have an atmosphere that builds, like "Ganymede, the Outpost." Overall, we wanted it all to be cohesive, and for the sum of the parts to make something amazing. The music itself borrows from so many influences: you have power chordy thrash riffs, trem-picked super-fast death metal stuff, and those quickly strummed minor chords that you find a lot in black metal. In short, there's some variety, but we like to think that it all comes together.

3.Both of the band members are also veterans, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Voidmaker', that you have not been able to do with your other groups?

Probably the biggest thing is the theming. We've never done projects before that were so focused. I (Joe) did an instrumental Egyptian-themed solo album a few years back, but it's not quite the same if there aren't lyrics. With Voidmaker, we were really able to dig into the sci-fi themes and create a whole connected universe with our songs.

4.A lot of your lyrics cover science fiction themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

I (Joe) am always reading some sci-fi book, watching a series or movie, or even playing a sci-fi themed video game. I've been a sci-fi fan for basically my whole life, so being able to create an album that is an homage to all the great media I've seen over the years has been a lot of fun and very satisfying. There's inspiration in "A Cold, Unyielding Universe" from authors like Alistair Reynolds, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Adrian Tchaikovsky, shows like "Foundation", "The Expanse", even games like "The Outer Worlds" series. Overall, doing an album like this has been something I've wanted to do for a while, and having Voidmaker bring all that inspiration to life has been a blast.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Voidmaker'?

Probably all the above sci-fi inspiration, plus, we thought it just sounds really cool and conjures up some cool visuals. Some eldritch universal being making voids everywhere? Pretty rad.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

This is an Adam Burke (Nightjar Illustration) custom piece. He is an amazing artist, and for this kind of stuff (sci-fi/fantasy) I would almost call him an "industry standard", except for the fact that I think he elevates art so much that it's anything but "standard". He painted this by hand, and shows us this amazing scene of a hulking space station, complete with ethereal glow, with a backdrop of fantastic nebulae/stars/nearby planets. The palette choices are amazing, the execution is flawless, just such a cool piece and something we were very lucky to have made for us.

7.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

There are no real plans to expand the band at this time - we're lucky to have been able to make this album as a duo, and I think it gave us a lot of creative freedom, but then again, who knows what the future will bring? 

8.The physical version of the album is going to be released by 'Witches Brew', how did you get in contact with this label?

We worked with an amazing firm based in the UK, Imperative PR, for our label search. They were able to get us into contact with Cheryl at "Witches Brew", and it's the perfect fit for us. Cheryl has been such a pleasure to work with, she's super responsive and supportive, and we're lucky that the label search went so well.

9.On a worldwide level, how has the reaction been to your music by fans of extreme metal?

In terms of streaming locations, we've got listeners in quite a few countries! The bulk are based in North America and Europe, but some countries in South America and Southeast Asia are doing well too. I think a lot of this too was the result of working with a few different companies for album PR, in concert with the publicity from Witches Brew.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

I think Voidmaker 2, whenever that comes out, will probably still deal thematically with sci-fi, and our overall sound will be similar, but we want to keep things fresh and interesting, so we'll push ourselves musically to make that happen.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

There are so many! Vektor, Revocation, Vorga, Mare Cognitum, Inferi, Impureza, Allegaeon, Carnosus, Gorod, and it goes on. I've been listening to a lot of atmospheric/meloblack and hardcore lately; I like to keep things fresh in terms of finding new bands to listen to.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We put a lot of time into "A Cold, Unyielding Universe"; it's been a passion project and something that we're really proud of.   Spread  The  Disease  are  a  band  from  Ontario,  Canada  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "The  Darkness,  The  Dread,  The  Suffering"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Hypaethral  Records.

  Harsh  noises  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  some  melodies  and  all  of  the  musical   instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  elements  of  hardcore  are  also  added  into  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  album.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  more  of  a  modern  extreme  metal  scene  and  interludes  are  also  added  in  between  a  couple  of  tracks,  synths  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs.

  Spread  The  Disease  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death  metal  and  hardcore  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  political  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Spread  The  Disease  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Light  Opaque"  and  "summer  Wanes".  8  out  of  10.

The Machinist/Towers/2026 EP Review

  United  Kingdom's  The  Machinist  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  industrial  and  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2026  ep  "Towers".

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  also  bring  in  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.  Elements  of  industrial  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Synths  are  also  utilized  at  times  while  the  ep  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clear  singing  is  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  all  of  the  drum  beats  also  being  programmed  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  is  also  added  towards  the  end.

  On  this  recording  the  Machinist  remains  true  to  the  mixture  of  industrial  and  blackened  death  metal  that  they  have  introduced  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  science  fiction  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  Machinist  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  industrial  and  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Of  Creation  And  Cancer".  8  out  of  10.

Seven Chains/Swollen, In Flux/I, Voidhanger Records/Rubeus Obex/2026 Full Length Review

  Seven  Chains  are  a  band  form  Idaho  that  plays  an  experimental  and  avant  garde  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Swollen,  In  Flux"  which  will  be  released  on  June  26th  as  a  joint  effort  between  I,  Voidhanger  Records  and  Rebeus  Obex.

  Choirs  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast b eats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  album  also  having  its  avant  garde  and  experimental  moments.

  Vocals  are  mostly  guttural  death  metal  growls  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  technical  style.  Black  metal  style  tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  words,  piano's  and  trumpets  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Seven  Chains  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  mixes  it  with  avant  garde  and  experimental  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Seven  Chains  are  a  very  great  sounding  avant  garde  and  experimental  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Whence  Blood  No  Longer  Flows"  and  "The  Earth's  Tentacular  Cross".  8  out  of  10.

Damnation Aeon/In Flame We Trust/Eclectic Productions/2026 Full Length Review

  Damnation  Aeon  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  plays  a  very  avant  garde  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "In  Flame  We  Trust"  which  was  released  by  Eclectic  Productions.

   A  very  avant  garde  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  also  has  its  progressive  moments  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  album  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  clean  playing  also  being  used  at  times,  a  couple  of  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  words  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  more  rooted  in  an  extreme  metal  style  when  they  are  utilized  and  one  song  also  introduces wind  instruments  into  the  music. 

  Damnation  Aeon  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death  and  avant  garde  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  religion  and  human  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Damnation  Aeon  are  a  very  great  sounding  avant  garde  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vagaries  Of  Perception"  "Slave"  and  "in  Flame  We  Trust".  8  out  of  10.

  Apogean  are  a  band  from  Toronto,  Ontario,  Canada  that  plays  a  very  technical  and  blackened  style  of  death  metal  with  elements  of  neo-folk  and  classical  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Waste  Where  Life  Begins"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  The  Artisan  Era.

  A  very  heavy  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  technical  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  the  album  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Violins  and  synths  are  also  added  on  a  couple  of  tracks  along  with    spoken  word  samples  also being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording,  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  touches  of  neo-folk  and  classical  as  well  as  keeping  everything  brutal  at  the  same  time  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  ritualistic  chants.\

  Apogean  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  that  is  very  technical  and  brutal  sounding as  well  as  adding  in  elements  of  neo-folk  and  classical  to  create  something  very  original.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  Ray  Bradbury's  "Fahrenheit  451"  and  George  Orwell's  "1984".

  In  my  opinion  Apogean  are  a  very  great  sounding  technical  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Daughter  Of  The  Oak"  "Lie  In  Cinder"  and "Black  Smoke,  Bleeding  Earth".  8  out  of  10.

  A  very  avant  garde  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  can be  heard  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  vocals  add  in  a  lot  of  death  metal  growls.

  In  my  opinion  Mortoth  are  a  very  great  sounding  avant  garde  and  experimental  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vacuum  Decay"  and  "Pulsating  Star".  8  out  of  10.

Frostmourner/Orbital Kaos/WormHoleDeath Records/2026 Full Length Review

  Frostmourner  are  a  solo  project  from  Italy  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  206  album  "Orbital  Kaos"  which  was  released  by  WormHoleDeath  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  while  the  songs  also  add  in a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized.

   Tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  being  instrumentals  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  synths.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  mythology,  space,  horror  and  the  writings  of  H.P  Lovecraft.

  In  my  opinion  Frostmourner  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  blackened  death  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Necromrph"  "Gorgone"  and  "Orbital  Kaos".  8 out  of  10.

Saasta/Cesspool/Inverse Records/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Saasta  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Cesspool"  which  was  released  by  Inverse  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  elements  of  doom  metal  and  blast  beats  are  added  into  the  faster  parts  of  the  recording.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  a  couple of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.

  On  this  recording  Saasta  remains  true  to  the  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  that  they  had  established  on  their  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  decay  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Saasta  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Leeches"  "The  Plague"  "The  Woe"  and  "The  Retribution".  8  out  of  10.

Complexant/Apex/Bleeding Art Collective/Blood Blast Distribution/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Complexant  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Apex"  which  will  be  released  in  July  as  a  joint  effort  between  Bleeding  Art  Collective  and  Blood  Blast  Distribution.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  mixed  in  with  some  black  metal  screams  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  at  times.

  Clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of   the  tracks  while  the  album  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Elements  of  deathcore  are  also  added  into  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  music  along  with  the  faster  riffing  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking.

   When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  instrumental  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  suffering,  violence  and  tyranny.

  In  my  opinion  Complexant  are  a  very  decent  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  deathcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "No  Angels  Weep"  "Heretical  Supremacy"  and  "No  Hope  For  Sanctuary".  7  out  of  10.

Veltharion/Black Hole's Dance/2026 Full length Review

  Veltharion  are  a  band  from  brazil  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2026  album  "Black  Hole's  Dance".

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  vocals  are  in  between  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  while  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  tremolo  picking  also  being  added  into  the  faster  riffing  and  a  couple  of   tracks  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.

  Veltharion  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  existentialism,  blasphemy  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Veltharion  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Abyss  of  Apeiron"  "Black  Hole  Dance"  and  "Under  ColdSun".  8  out  of  10.

Tümör/Gaip Dergâhı/2026 EP Review

  Tümör  are  a  band  from  Turkey  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2026  ep  "Gaip  Dergâhı".

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing.

  On  this  recording  Tümör   remains  true  to  the  blackened  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  they  introduced  on  their  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Turkish  and  cover  Anatolian  Esotericism  and  History.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tümör   and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Efendi"  and  "Luvi".  8  out  of  10.

Blasart/Depravatus Christians Sacris/Lavadome Productions/2026 Full length Review

  Blasart  are  a  band  from  Chile  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Depravatus  Christians  Sacris"  which  was  released  by  lavadome  Productions.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  brutal  direction  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.

  Tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Some  of  the  music  also  shows  an  influence  of  thrash  metal  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  adding  in  more  of  a  chaotic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Blasart  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Spanish  and   cover  Occultism  and  Anti  Christianity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Blasart  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  REOCMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Venenum  Immersionem  Ritual"  "Supplica  Abcolutum  Numinus  Iram"  and  "Vocatio  Sanctis  Phallus".  8  out  of  10.

Rhinderpest/Self Titled/Apophenion Records/2026 Full Length Review

  Rhinderpest  are  a  band  from  the  Pacific  Northwest  region  of  the  United  States  and  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2026  album  which  was  released  by  Apophenion  Records.

  Ritualistic  chants  and  demonic  voices  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  add  in  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  old  school  style.  Blast  beats  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  album  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  one  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  keyboards  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing.

  Rhinderpest  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  early  90's  era  of  black  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Rhinderpest  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musicla  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Clown  Puppet"  "Blackmoon"  and  "Blood  Of  Tubal  Cain".  8  out  of  10.

Devour The Sun Interview

 1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

 

C: F. and I have already known each other for many years from the local punk and metal szene and always wanted to start a music project together. During one of the lock-downs in Corona times in 2021, we secretly met at my rehearsal room, jammed a bit around and recorded the 4 songs for our EP "Chapter I - A Lesson in Self​-​control and Devotion" within two sessions. Vocal recordings, mixing and mastering took place a bit later this year. In September 2021, we self-released the EP on Tape/MC. 

 

Right from the beginning, our music was meant to be a concept work, dividing our releases into Chapters circling around different lyrical themes. All the lyrical and visual aspects are connected to Vedic History and Classic Hindu Epics. The musical foundation is set among Black Metal with some influences from Death Metal, Hardcore Punk and Post Punk, adding some mantras and samples. 

 

2.So far you have released an ep and a full length, musically how do they both differ from each other?

 

C: The EP was written more on a spontaneous level, blending Black Metal with a higher amount of Hardcore Punk. Our full lenght took way more time during the songwriting process and was written around some pre-set lyrics. The music is also more complex and multi-layered with more focus on riffs and atmosphere. The production process and mixing/mastering also took considerably more time. 

 

3.From 2021 to 2026 there was no music being released, can you tell us a little bit more about the 5 year wait in between releases?

 

C: As both of us are playing in some other bands, we have been and are always busy with some other projects on which we need to focus more from time to time. However, during 2023 and 2024, we started to write and pre-record the songs. I also recorded the Mantras during one of my trips to Mumbai in India. During 2025 we recorded all instruments and vocals, fine-tuned everything and mixed and mastered the album, so we could finally release the album in February 2026. 

 

4.Both of the band members play in other bands, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Devour The Sun', that you have not been able to do with your other groups?

 

C: First of all, it is the unique blend of our different musical backgrounds - I have a strong Thrash Metal/Black Metal Background and F is more involved in Post Punk /Death Rock/Wave projects. We also noticed that we work well together in the songwriting process. In the end, I have every freedom in incorporating my visual and lyrical concepts into our music. 

 

5.A lot of your lyrics cover Vedic History and Hindu Scriptures', can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these yopics?

 

C: As mentioned before, all the lyrical and visual aspects are connected to Vedic History and Classic Hindu Epics. I was living with a Hindu family in the UK for half a year during an apprenticeship around 10 years ago. It made a huge impact on me without knowing at this time. I got a climpse about the culture and was also watching a lot of Indian movies at this time (also the series about the Ramayana and Mahabharata). When I returned to Gemany, I was getting more into Hindu culture, reading books and collecting figures and puja articles. I was also travelling to Mumbai two times and even got a deeper impression on the culture and religion. One of my favorite stories is the Ramayana, so I decided to dedicate it to the music and concept of our first two releases. 

 

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Devour The sun'?

 

C: The band name "Devour The Sun" comes from Hindu mythology and refers to the legend of Lord Hanuman trying to eat the sun once during his childhood. Driven by innocent mischief, young Hanuman mistook the glowing sun for a ripe fruit and leaped into the sky to swallow it. He successfully caught and held the sun in his mouth, which plunged the entire universe into sudden darkness. Hanuman is also a strong devotee of Lord Rama and an important part of the lyrical concept of our first releases. So, everything is related to each other.

 

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

 

C: The album cover is showing a picture of the statue of Rama from the new Ayodha temple. The so-called "Ram Mandir" temple is a Hindu temple complex in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India. Many Hindus believe that it is located at the site of Ram Janmabhoomi, the mythical birthplace of Rama. 

 

8.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

 

C: We prefer to continue working as a duo, as there is not really a need to involve more people. We are able to play all instruments ourselves. However, for the current release, we invited a good friend of us for contributing with some additional vocals (Markus of "Morbus Kinski"). 

 

9.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

 

C: If there will be any label interested in releasing our music, we would be more than happy to release our music on Vinyl, too. We have approached a few labels but have not been succesful so far. We would be highly interested in a collaboration with some labels in India.

 

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

 

C: The release of our first EP got some good recognition within the undrground scene and the tapes sold out quite fast. However, since we are self-releasing our music, we do not have access to a huge audience on a world-wide basis. But we are getting more and more attention. 

 

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

 

C: Any future music will most likely be even more complex and epic, as it will be connnected to a different lyrical story as for our first two releases. 

 

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

 

C: For me personally, I took some influences from 90s Norwegian Black Metal and some hints of 70s Prog Rock. I basically listen to a lot of Scandinavian Black Metal, Speed Metal, HC Punk and 70s Prog Rock. 

F: My musical background and taste is all over the place. Metal, Punk, Goth, Electronica etc in various genres. The weirder the better

 

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Soulburn/Quantifying Cosmic Dooom/Testimony Records/2026 Full Length Review

  Soulburn  are  a  band  from  the  Netherlands  that  plays  a  blackened  mixture  of  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Quantifying  Cosmic  Doom"  which  will  be  released  on  June  12th  by  Testimony  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  some  elements  of  doom  metal  also  being  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  clear  singing  also being  used  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  harsh  vocals  also  adding  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.

  Synths  and  clean  playing  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  words  also  being  used  on  a  couple  of  songs.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  evil  and  battle  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Soulburn  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Braveheart  Of  Nightmares"  "Stalactite  of  Molten  Flesh"  "Down  Among  The  Stars"  and  "An  Innocuous  Swathe  Of  Sky".  8  out  of  10.

Carcerous Interview

 Konstantin Milev (K) - founder, song and lyric writer and lead vocalist

Ivan Kozarev (I) - founder, song and lyric writer, guitarist and vocalist

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

K: We are enjoying ourselves and the response of the audience, which, at least so far, has been pretty good. At the same time the work behind the scenes to develop the band further never ceases.

2.In April you released your first full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

K: I personally wanted a fully fledged death metal record. That being said, our creative process is typically completely natural, so we go wherever our ideas take us, and you can hear that in the record. In general, I envisioned a heavier, darker and more epic record than our first mini album, and I daresay we managed to achieve all of those. 

I: I share Konstantin’s perspective and vision for the record, but I dare say it turned out to be more than we expected. We were free to just express ourselves and the result was an album that doesn’t stay in one place and isn’t defined by one subgenre of metal. I love it.

3.Most of the band members were previously a part of 'Incara', what was the decision behind splitting up the other band and starting a new band?

K: From my perspective - I was the band’s drummer for a bit, and there was tension with some band members, mostly based on character and ego (not mine). The band was also thrash metal mostly, which isn’t my style of choice, so to be honest it was only a matter of time for me before I left. The band ended some time after that. Ultimately, this band was the reason for me to make Ivan’s acquaintance, which ultimately led to the creation of Carcerous. Myself and Ivan already had the idea for an extreme metal side project between the two of us and me being forced out of Incara was the perfect trigger for that project to come to the foreground. Because the two of us were already in the process of writing the next Incara album (and we were trying to move the band into a more extreme direction), we took those songs with us to Carcerous and that resulted in the New Age God mini that we released in 2025. Also Incara was the reason to meet Carcerous’ current drummer - Kristian - who succeeded me as the band’s drummer until they disbanded.

4.A lot of your lyrics cover occult and anti religion themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?

K: We are writing lyrics that fit the feel of the songs we write. We are not satanists or inclined towards the occult ourselves. We like to tell stories, and we choose topics that make for a compelling narrative. 

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Carcerous'?

K: Carcerous was meant to be a name that was completely unique and ours - we wanted no one to have used it before. I also meant it to invoke correlation to other similar names in the genre, without being cheesy. It achieved both things quite well. It is a non-existent word, but if I had to give it a definition, it is an adjective, meaning carcer-like - referencing the creeping lack of freedom we experience in our daily lives, due to technology, politics, and our own beliefs holding us back. We live in a Carcerous age.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

K: The cover art is the work of a close friend - the amazing artist Yassen Stoilov. The art itself is his interpretation of the lyrics for the namesake song - Doomsday Factory, which itself is a critique of humanity’s inability to know peace. 

7.Out of all the shows the band has done so far, which one stands out the most?

K: I love shows with high attendance, just because the audience hypes and feeds off its own energy, which always results in a wild ride. All of those we have had so far have been great. I also love those shows where we get to support bands from outside Bulgaria.

I: I don’t have a favorite amongst our shows so far, but I can say we always give our best when we perform, just because that’s the important thing - No matter how many people come to the show, the artist must stay true to the performance and always give their best.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

K: We are working on those. In general we are an active live band and will continue to be. For now we have two shows announced, both in Sofia, Bulgaria - in support of the French death metallers of Redsphere in June and the Hungarian death machines Monastery in October. In the meantime we are actively looking for opportunities.

9.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

K: We are independent still, looking to get signed. We have had interest from labels and are hoping to close a deal soon.

10.On a worldwide level, how has the reaction been to your music by fans of extreme metal?

K: So far the reception has been warm. Relatively few people know of us still, so I guess we need to address that first.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

K: I see us digging deeper into death metal, at least initially. I think we will remain true to ourselves in that regard and keep being spontaneous with our songwriting, so who knows what the future will bring. I hope whatever we do, we manage to stay inspired and keep things fresh and interesting.

I: We always try to not think about what our songs have to be, but instead to just allow ourselves to write music freely and then see what the end result is. It always surprises us and it’s always original for us, so that’s what matters the most to me.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?

K: I am listening to a lot of bands, not so many new ones - mostly bands from the 90s. I mostly listen to death metal, black/death metal and some less typical black metal. Notable names for me are Hypocrisy, Sodom, Rotting Christ, Thy Catafalque, Belphegor, Behemoth, Bolt Thrower, Memoriam, Lay Down Rotten, Morbid Angel, Vomitory, Blood Red Throne, and so many more. Lately, I have been listening to a lot of 2000s Cradle OF FIlth and some late 90s and early 2000s Dimmu Borgir. New releases that I have enjoyed include the new albums by Immolation, Vomitory, Vreid, Cryptopsy, and Hanging Garden from Finland. I also really loved the new Coroner record that came out last year - made a fan out of me for sure.

I: Konstantin is the death metal guy. I like many of the bands he mentioned, but I also listen to a whole lot of thrash metal, groove metal, alternative metal and metalcore bands. You can get inspired from a lot of bands and styles these days.
