King Leviathan/Paean Heretica/Infernum Records/2017 Full Length Review

  King  Leviathan  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  groove,  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Paean  Heretica"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Infernum  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  where you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  the  vocals  mix  in the  more  aggressive  screaming  thrash  style.

  Clean  singing  is  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  a  few  growls  and  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  influences  can  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  fashion  and  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  groove  metal  elements.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  last  track  is very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  this  recording  King  Leviathan  remains  true  to  the  blackened  thrash  metal  style  of  previous  releases  while  also  mixing  in  more  elements  of  groove  metal  this  time  around,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  King  Leviathan  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  groove  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Primitive  Baptism"  "Agony"  "Harrowing  Eyes"  and  "The  Grand  Congregation".  8  out  of  10.

King Leviathan/The Shrine/2015 EP Review

  King  Leviathan  are  a  band  from  England  that  plays  a  mixture  of  power,  thrash,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  ep  "The  Shrine".

  Synths  and  spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  ep  giving  the  recording  an  epic  feeling  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  melodic  musical  direction  as  well  as  adding in  blackened  death  metal  growls  and  a  few  seconds  later  clean  singing  power  metal  vocals  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style  of  metal  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  being  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  adding  in  a  great  mixture  of  both  modern  and  old  school  influences  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  being  presented  on  a  couple  of  the  later  songs.

  King  Leviathan  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  80's  thrash  and  power  metal  but  also  mixes  in  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  style  riffing  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  e  production  sounds  very  old  school  yet  professional  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  King  Leviathan are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  power,  thrash,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wormwood"  and  "Madness  Made  Divine".  8  out  of  10.
