Second To Sun/The Black/2018 Full Length Review

  Russia's  Second  To  Sun  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  with  the  music  mixing  black,  groove  metal  and  djent  together  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  relesed  2018  album  "The  Black"  which  is  also  a  re-recorded  version  of t heir  2016  album  "Blackbound"  but  done  with  vocals  this  time  around.

  Classic  movie  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking and  blast  beats  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  mixing  in  elements  of  djent  and  groove  metal.

  Folk  music  elements  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as w ell  as  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  at  times  the  music  gets  very  atmospheric  and  progressive  sounding  and  as  the  album  progresses  nature  sounds,  acoustic  guitars,  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  on  of  the  later  tracks  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length. 

  On  this  recording  Second  To  Sun  continue  their  mixture  of  black,  groove  metal,  djent  and  Finno  Uragic  music  while  also  adding  in  vocals  this  time  around,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Russian  and  English and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Second  To  Sun  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  groove  metal  and  djent,  you  should c heck  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ladoga  Monster"  "Vasilla"  and  "The  Fool".  8out  of  10.

Second To Sun/Blackbound/2016 Full Length Review

  Second  To  Sun  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  instrumental  mixture  of   black  metal,  djent  and  Finno-Ugric  folk  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  album  "Blackbound".

  Nature  sounds  start  off  the  album  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  black  metal  feeling  and  atmospheric  synths  are  also  used  at  times  while  clean  playing  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  instrumental  and  the  mid  tempo  sections  are  very  heavily  influenced  by  djent  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  an  ethnic  feeling  and  one  track  brings  in  spoken  word  parts  and  a  later  song  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Second  To  Sun  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  instrumental  mixture  of  black  metal  and  djent  of  their  previous  releases  and  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording.

 In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Second  To  Sun  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  instrumental  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Chokk  Kapper"  "Ladoga  Master"  and  "Idemevs".  8  out  of  10.

Second To Sun/The First Chapter/2015 Full Length Review

  Second  To  Sun  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  an  instrumental  mixture  of  black  metal,  djent  and  Finno-Ugric  folk  music  and  this is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  album  "The  First  Chapter".

  Distorted  noises  start  off  the  album  along  with  soem  ambient  and  atmospheric  elements  and  after  a  few  seconds  the  music  starts  getting  heavier  and  also brings  in  elements  of  djent  and  progressive  metal  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  In  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  elements  can  be  heard  and  the  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  more  of  a  dark  and  melodic  style and  in  the  softer sections  the  folk  music  parts  really  start  to  kick in  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  more  of  a  modern  thrash  sound  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  mixing  both  the  heavy  and  atmospheric  sections  together.

 Second  To  Sun  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  and  progressive metal  and  mixes  it  with  djent,  ambient  and  Finno-Ugric  music  and  avoids  any  lyrics  or  vocals  to  create  a  style  of  their  own  and  the  production  also  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording.

  In  my  opinion  Second  To  Sun  are  a  very  great  sounding  instrumental  mixture  of  black  metal,  djent  and  Finno-Ugric  folk  music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Spirit  Of  Kusoto"  "Land  Of  The  Fearless  Birds"  "Virgo  Mitt"  and  "Narcat".  8  out  of  10.
