  Faded  Remembrance  are  a  solo  project  from  Hungary  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black,  death,  doom  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2026  album  "The  Blessing  Of  Downfall"  which  was  released  by  Bitume  Productions.

  Synths  and  clean  playing  start  off  the  album  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Trombone's  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  harsh  vocals  being  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  with  some  first  wave  touches  and  aggressive  90's  style  doom/death  vocals  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  recording  also  add  in  elements  of  doom  metal.

   A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic in  length  while  the  clear  vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  gothic  metal  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  clean  playing  also  being  utilized  at  times,  the  album  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  and  on  the  closing  a  track  a  brief  use  of  fast  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

  On  this  recording  Faded  Remembrance  goes  for  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black,  death,  doom  and  gothic  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  era.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophy,  human  nature,  inner  struggles,  faith,  emotion,  existence  and  nature.

Opera IX/Venficium/Edged Circle Productions/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Opera  IX  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  been  interviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  symphonic  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Venificium"  which  will  be  released  in  may  by  Edged  Circle  Productions.

  Horror  movie  style  keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  the  spoken  words  also  add  in  a  ritualistic  touch.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  symphonic  sounding  along  with  some  elements  of  doom  metal  being  added  into  the  slower  parts  of  the  songs.

  Harsh  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  clear  singing  also  adds  in  some  gothic  metal  touches.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  whispers  being  used  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  some  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  album  closes  with  a  Black  Sabbath  cover.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Dark  Arts  and  Witchcraft  themes.   

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Opera  IX  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vocatio  Mortourum"  "Hortus  Sagae"  "Venficium"  and  "Black  Sabbath".  8  out  of  10.

  Zuvembie  Necroneon  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  blackened  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  with  elements  of  psychobilly  and  deathrock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  ep  "Into  The  Fleshbound  Dominion".

  Deathrock  style  clean  playing  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  and  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  mixture  of  80's  thrash  singing,  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  recording  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  psychobilly  and  punk  elements.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  

  Zuvembie  Necroneon  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death,  thrash  metal,  punk  deathrock  and  psychobilly  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  something  very  original.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  apocalypse,  surrealism,  human  decay,  madness  and  dystopian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Zuvembe  Necroneon  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death,  thrash  metal,  punk,  deathrock  and  psychobilly and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Into  The  Fleshbound  Dominion"  and  "Phantasmagoric  Apocalypse".  8  out  of  10.

Frayle/Heretics & Lullabies/Napalm Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Frayle  are  a  band  from  Ohio  that  plays  a  mixture  of  blackgaze,  goth  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Heretics  &  Lullabies"  which  was  released  by  Napalm  Records.

  A  very  slow,  dark  and  heavy  doom  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Synths  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  clear  vocals  also  adding  in  more  of  a  gothic  metal  style  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Clean  playing  is  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album  while  whispered  vocals  can  also be  heard  on  a  few  tracks.  Touches  of  alternative  rock  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  adding  more  of  a  post  metal  and  blackgaze  style,  one  of  the  tracks  is  also  a  Lana  Del  Ray  cover  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  harsh  blackened  vocals  and  growls  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.  

  Frayle  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  gothic,  doom,  post  metal  and  blackgaze  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Despair  themes.

  Sweden's  The  Vice  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for a   mixture  of  black'n'roll,  post  punk,  dark  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  ep  "The  Red  Tape  Sessions"  which  was  released  by  Noble  Demon.

  Soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  post  punk  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  the.  Solos  and  leads  are  done  in  more  of  a  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  black  metal  screams  and  the  synths  add  in  more  of  a  dark  emetal  direction.

  Elements  of  black'n'roll  are  also  added  into  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  music  also  incorporated  a  lot  of  goth  rock  influences.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  a  small  amount  of  blast b eats  also being  utilized  when  the  music  speeds  up,  acoustic  guitars  and  clear  singing  are  also  introduced  on  a  later  track.  

  On  this  recording  The  Vice  continues  to  expand  on t heir  mixture  of  black'n'rool,  dark  and  gothic  metal  by  incorporating  elements  of  post-punk.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  Portugal's  Moonspell have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  with  an  orchestra  in  a live  setting  to  add  a  symphonic  touch  to t heir  mix  of  black, dark  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  live  2025  double  album  "Opus  Diabolicum  -  The  orchestral  Live  Show"  which  was  released  by  Napalm  Records.

  Live  Audience  reaction  starts  off  the  album  along  with  an  orchestra  playing  in  a  background  bringing  in  more  of  a  classical  and  symphonic  style  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  When  chants  and  spoken  words  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  touch.

  North  Carolina's  All  Hell  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash  metal,  punk  and  deathrock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Sunsetter"  which  will  be  released  in  october  by  Terminus  Hate  City.

  A  very  fast  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Elements  of  punk  and  thrash  metal  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing   and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  riffs  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  music  also  mixes  a  lot  of  old  school  touches  into  a  more  modern  sound  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  bringing  in  more  of  a  metal/punk  style  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  an  influence  of  deathrock  when  synths  are  utilized,  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks.

  On  this  recording  All  Hell  goes  for  more  of  a  modern  mixture  of  black,  thrash  metal,  punk  and  deathrock.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  the  curse  of  Cain  and  his  union  with  Lilith  which  causes  a  cursed  bloodline.

   A  very  heavy  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  clean  playing  and  synths  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  clear  style.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  

  A  lot  of  the  music  also  brings  in  elements  of  gothic  metal  while  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  alternative  rock  touches.  Some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  back  up  vocals  along  with  the  album  also  getting  very  progressive  sounding  at  times  and  most  of  the  album  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

  

  On  this  recording  Katatonia  expands  on  the  progressive  mixture  of  alternative,  gothic  and  post  metal  from  the  last  few  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dystopia,  inner  demons  and  purity  themes.

Ponte del Diavolo Interview

 

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band these days? 

KRATOM: Hi! 2025 will be a pretty busy year for the band. We will play some of the major Europe festivals and we'll be hitting the studio soon to record our second LP 

2.So far yo have released 3 ep's and one full length, musically how do they all differ from each other?

 ABRO: The first three EPs are more raw and direct production wise. With "Fire blades from the tomb" we wanted to focus more on the arrangements and sounds and we experimented as well with including different instruments such as synths, theremin and clarinet 

3.The band also incorporates the use of 2 bass guitars, can you tell us a little bit more about going for a double bass instead of the 2 six string guitar concept based most bands go for? 

ABRO: It's a matter of sound. We love low frequencies and having 2 basses gives us a different way to approach the songs. Of course equalizing the sounds was a challenge and I think you will hear more of it in the next album. Sometimes one bass is more like a guitar and sometimes we like to go in unison to destroy everything in our range.

 4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far and also how would you describe your progress as songwriters over the years? 

ERBA DEL DIAVOLO: All our songs talk about the relationship that human beings have with nature, with the universe, with its most hidden part. They speak of courage in probing the invisible and of love for dissidence. I couldn't tell you how our way of composing has changed over the years, it's a natural alchemy. We seek enjoyment in writing. It is the most direct way to communicate on another level, more real and profound.

 5.I know that the band's name means 'Devil's Bridge' in Italian, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?

 KRATOM: The "Ponte del Diavolo" is an actual place in Italy that is connected with a folklore story connected with the Devil. I think it fits perfectly the musical style of the band since it's a bridge that connects different musical genres, but all tied to the Devil's spark. 

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the compilation album cover?

 ABRO: The artwork is very minimal. We chose a very direct approach to convey the record title. 

7.Recently you have released all 3 of your ep's all on one album, can you tell us a little bit more about the decision behind releasing a compilation? 

KRATOM: The original EP's were printed by independent small labels and got sold out pretty quickly. We saw some of our items sold on discogs at incredibly high prices, so we thought it was a good idea to reprint all the songs with a new mix and master and give the possibility to have them all on a physical support with an affordable price. 

8.Out of all the shows the band has played so far, which one stands out the most? 

ABRO: Personally I would say our show at the 2024 edition of the Soulcrusher festival in Holland. KRATOM: agree, Soulcrusher has been wild and wonderful. 

9.Do you have any touring or show plans for 2025?

 Absolutely. As said above, 2025 will be a pretty busy year. 10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and doom metal?

 ABRO: I would say that the reaction has been very positive. The people are intrigued by our non conventional sound. 

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future? 

ABRO: Only time will tell. 

12.In one interview you also mentioned an interest in the writings of Aliester Crowley and Esoteric topics, can you tell us a little bit more about this interest?

 KRATOM: Everyone in the band has its own take on spirituality so I can't really give a straight unique answer for everybody. We don't address any specific current explicitly in our lyrics, but if you read them carefully I think you'll find some hints 1

3.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?

 ABRO: lately I've been listening to: the kilimanjaro dark jazz ensemble, thin lizzy, the cure, the latest paysage d'hiver and spectral wound KRATOM: the latest Spectral Wound for sure is a banger. Lately I listened a lot also to With The Dead, Feral Forms and Skinny Puppy.

  Plague  Of  Stars  are  a  band  from  Minnesota  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album "Extinction"  which  will  be  released  on  January  31st  by  WormHoleDeath  Records.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at times.  When  clear  vocals  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  more  of  a  gothic  metal  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  along  with  the  harsh  vocals  being  black  metal  screams  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  some  spoken  words  also  being  used  briefly,  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Hermh/Oremus Peccatum (Refaim)/Via Nocturna/2024 Demo Re-Issue Review

 

  Hermh  where  a  band  from  Poland  that  played  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1994  demo  "Oremus  Peccatum  (Refaim)"  which  was  re-issued  in  2024  by  Via  Nocturna.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  demo  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  doom  metal.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  keyboards  also  being  more  heavily  rooted  in  gothic  metal  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.

 One  of  the  songs  also  adds  in  some  session  work  from  Cemetery  Of  Scream  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  the  whole  demo  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  and  clear  singing  is  also  added  on  the  closing  song.

  Hermh  played  a  musical  style  that took  black,  doom  and  gothic  metal  and  mixed  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  mysticism  and  war  themes.

  On  All  Fours  are  a  band  from  Belgium  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom,  gothic  metal  and  darkwave  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Hybris"  which  was  released  by  Van  Records.

  Drum  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  darkwave  style  clean  playing  a  few  seconds  later.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  clear  vocals  bring  in  more  of  an  ethereal  style  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Clear  male   vocals  are  also  utilized  briefly  while  the  slower  and  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  doom  metal.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  the  tracks  also  bringing  in  the  dark  atmosphere  of  black  metal,  one  song  also  introduces  harsh  vocals  onto  the  album  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction  as  well as  the  bonus  track  also  being  an  acoustic  song.

  Germany's  Hexenbrett  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  doom,  heavy  metal  and  deathrock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Dritte  Beschwörung:  Dem  Teufel  eine  Tochter"  which  was  released  by  Dying  Victims  Productions.

  Horror  movie  samples  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  synths  also  add  in  more  of  a  deathrock  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  going  for  more  of  a  classic  traditional  metal  style  and  the  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style.

  The  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  doom  metal  while  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  when  the  music  speeds  up.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  spoken  words  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  more  of  a  ritualistic  atmosphere.

   A  lot  of  the  album  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  as  well  as  remaining  very  modern  at  the  same  time  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  one  song  also  being  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  Satanism  Occultism,  Egyptian  Mythology  and  Horror  themes.

The Gates/...of the River Styx/Northern Silence Productions/2024 Full Length Review

 

  The  Gates  are  a  band  from  Quebec,  Canada  that   has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  gothic,  deathrock  and  occult  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "...of  the  River  Styx"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Northern  Silence  Productions.

  Synths  and  programmed  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clear  goth  rock  style  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  while  clean  playing  can  also  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with t he  more  aggressive  vocals  bringing  in  elements  of  black  metal.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in    very  melodic  style  while t he  music  also  adds  in  elements  of  deathrock  and  80's  disco/synth  music.  Some  of  the  guitar  riffing  also  adds  in  the  heaviness  of  metal  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  samples  and  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  mid  tempo  direction.

  On  this  recording  The  Gates  keeps  some  of  the  black  metal  vocals  as  well  as  focusing  more  on  a  synth  orientated  magick  metal  style  which  also  mixes  in  a  lot  of  goth/deathrock  elements.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  Gates  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal  and  gothic  rock,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Alone"  "Stygian  Hell"  and  "Watchers  of  the  night Sky". 8  out  of  10.
