Midnight/Steel, Rust And Disgust/Metal Blade Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Cleveland,  Ohio's  solo  project  Midnight  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  speed  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Steel,  Rust  And  Disgust"  which  will  be  released  on  May  23rd  by  Metal  Blade  Records  which  consists  of  a  couple  of  originals  tracks  and  mostly  covers.

  A  very  heard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  metal/punk  guitar  solos  and  leads  a  few  seconds  later.  Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  speed  metal  elements.

  Among  the  groups  that  are  covered  on  the  album  are  Kratos,  Synastryche,  Rocket  From  The  Tombs,  Screamin'  Jay  Hawkins,  Rubber  City  Rebels,  Dead  Boys,  David  Allan  Coe,  False  Hope  and  Electric  Eels.  Most  of  the  newer  versions  of  those  songs  covered  are  changed  into  a  way  that  they  can  pass  for  original  tracks  written  by  the  band  performing  these  songs.

  Some  of  the  guitar  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  thrash  metal  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow  and  mid  paced  parts,  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction  and  the  production  also sounds  very  professional.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Midnight  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  solo  project,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Cleveland  Metal"  "Final  Solution'  "Rock  N'  Roll  Fever"  and  "Agitated".  8  out  of  10.

Midnight/Hellish Expectations/Metal Blade Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Midnight  are  a  solo  project  from  Cleveland,  Ohio  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  speed  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Hellish  Expectations"  which  will  be  released  in  march  by  Metal  Blade  Records.

  A  very  heavy  80's  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  album  which  also  brings  in  elements  of  speed  and  thrash  metal.  Vocals are  done  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  the  raw  energy  off  punk  rock  at  times.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  very  true  to  an  old  school  style  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  The  songs  also  take  a  retro  style  and  make  them  sound  modern  again  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Midnight  goes  for  more  of  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash,  speed  metal  and  punk.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Hell,  Satanism,  Blasphemy,  Death  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Midnight  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  solo  project,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Expect  Total  Hell"  "Dungeon  Lust"  "Deliver  us  To  The  Devil"  and  "Doom  Death  Desire".  8  out  of  10.

Midnight/Rebirth by Blasphemy/Metal Blade Records/2020 Full Length Review

  Midnight  are  a  solo  project  from  Cleveland,  Ohio  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  speed  metal  and  punk  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Rebirth  by  Blasphemy"  which  will  be  released  on  January  24th  by  Metal  Blade  Records.

  A  very  heavy  and  old  school  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  black  emtal  screams  that  mix  the  first  and  second  wave  styles  together  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  speed  metal  elements.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  music  also  capturing  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock.
