Desolate Shrine/Fires Of The Dying World/Dark Descent Records/2022 CD Review

 

  Finland's  Desolate  Shrine  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  blackened  mixture  of  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Fires  Of  The  Dying  World"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  Classical  guitars  and  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  death  metal  growls  onto  the  recording.  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  good  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  songs  also  add  in a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  album  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  classical  guitars  and  synths  also  returning  on  a  lot  of  the  later  songs.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  misanthropy,  nihilism,  negativity  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Desolate  Shrine  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Dying  World"  and  "The  Furnace  of  Hope".  8  out  of  10.

Desolate Shrine/Deliverance From The Godless Void/Dark Descent Records/2017 CD Review

  Finland's  Desolate  Shrine  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  that  continues  their  blackened  mixture  of  death  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of   their  2017  album  "Deliverance  From  The  Godless  Void"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  and  elements  of  doom  metal  can  be  heard  in  the  slower  riffing.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  fashion  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  dark  sounding  synths,  whispers  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  as  well  a s the  main  focus  being  more  on  a  heavier  style.

  Desolate  Shrine  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  blackened  mixture  of  death  and  doom  metal  from  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Misanthropy,  Nihilism,  Negativity  and  Occultism  themes,

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Desolate Shrine  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  death  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Primordial  One"  "Demonic  Evocation  Prayer"  and  "...Of  Hell".  8  out  10.

Desolate Shrine/The Heart Of The Netherworld/Dark Descent Records/2015 CD Review

  Desolate  Shrine  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  blackened  form  of  occult  death/doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "The  Heart  Of  The  Netherworld"  which  will  be  released  in  2015  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  A  very  dark,  atmospheric  and  ritualistic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  minute  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  dark  death  metal  direction  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  you  can  hear  some  blast  beats  and  black  metal  elements  being  added  onto  the  recording  and  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  can  be  heard  throughout  the  recording  and  the  band  also  brings  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  they  also  bring  in  more  of  a  dark  atmosphere  to  the  bands  musical  sound  when  they  are  utilized.

  On  some  of  the  songs  the  band  adds  in  a  very  ritualistic  atmosphere  into  their  dark  style  of  death  metal  and  you  can  also  hear  a  great  amount  of  doom  metal  elements  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  tracks  and  on  one  of  the  later  songs  keyboards  are  added  into  the  music  and  the  album  starts  bringing  in  more  black  metal  influences  onto  the  last  couple  of  tracks.

  Desolate  Shrine  creates  another  dark  and  ritualistic  sounding  blackened  death  metal  album  with  this  recording  and  they  expand  on  the  sound  that  was  heard  on  their  previous  releases  while  also  taking  their  music  into  the  darker  direction,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  misanthropy,  nihilism,  satanism  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Desolate  Shrine  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Black  Fires  Of  God"  "We  Dawn  Anew"  and  "Heart  of  the  Netherworld".  8  out  of  10.

Desolate Shrine/The Sanctum Of Human Darkness/Dark Descent Records/2012 CD Review

  Desolate  Shrine  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  dark,  and  heavy form  of  occult  death  metal  with  black  and  doom  metal  influences  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "The  Sanctum  of  Human  Darkness"  which  was  released  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  Drums range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  drumming  with  only  a  small  amount  of  fast  playing  and    blast  beats,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars<  as  for  the  synths  and  sound  effects  when  they  are  utilized  they  bring  a  very  dark,  avant  garde,  evil  and  occult  sound  to  the  music.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  death  metal riffs  that  are  very  dark  and  heavy  sounding  with  a  good  amount  of  black  and  doom  metal  influences  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  soft  and  clean  playing  in  addition  there  are  some  evil  sounding  melodies  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording,  as  for  the  classical  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  to  enhance  the  darkness  that  is  coming  out  of  the  music.

  Vocals  range  from  deep  death  metal  growls  to  high  pitched  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  occult  themes  that  lean  toward  the  Left  Hand  Path,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  dark,  powerful  and  heavy  sound  to  it  with  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Desolate  Shrine  are  a  very  great  sounding  heavy  and  dark  occult  blackened  death  metal  band  with  doom  metal  influences  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pillars  Of  Salvation  (The  Drowned  Prince)"  "Demon  Heart  (The  Desolate  One)"  and  "Funeral  Chamber  (Sacred  Ceremonial  Light)".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
