Totengott/Beyond The Veil/Hammerheart Records/2024 Full Length Review

Spain's  Totengott  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal  with  elements  of  gothic  and  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Beyond  The  Veil"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Hammerheart  Records.

Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  elements  of  doom  metal.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  thrash  metal  infleunces.

Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  80's  style  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  bringing  in  more  of  an  old  school  extreme  metal  style.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  clear  vocals  also  adding  in  more  of  a  gothic  metal  touch.  Ambient  style  synths  are  also  added  on  a  couple  of  tracks  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  the  closing  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  which  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Mental  Disorders.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Totengott  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sons  Of  The  Serpent"  "The  Architect"  and  "The  Golden  Crest  (The  Ritual,  The  Curse,  The  Path,  The  Light)".  8  out  of  10.

Totengott/The Abyss/Xtreem Music/2019 CD Review

Totengott  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "The  Abyss"  which  was  released  by  Xtreem  Music.

Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  music.  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.

Orchestra  sounds  are  also  brought  into  the  music  briefly  ion  a  couple  of  the  tacks  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  an  angry  shouting  style  that  is  very  heavily  influenced  by  Celtic  Frost.  Elements  of  black  and  death  metal  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  dark  soundscapes  also make  a  brief  return  on  a  couple  of  tracks  and  towards  the  end  a  brief  use  of  operatic  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  mental  illness,  occult  and  darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Totengott  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  doom  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ceremony  II,  The  Way  Of  Sin"  and  "Doppleganger II,  The  Abyss".  8  out  of  10.

Totengott/Doppleganger/Xtreem Music/2017 CD Review

Totengott  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album "Doppleganger"  which  was  released  by  Xtreem  Music.

Atmospheric  synths  and  ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  touches  of  classical  and  opera  music  before  adding  in  drum  beats  and  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  doom  metal  feeling  and  all  3  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  an  aggressive  80's  style  of  extreme  metal  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  elements  of  thrash  and  first  wave  black  metal  along  with  some  touches  of  death  metal  and  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  amount  of  melody  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  metal  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  synths are  also  used  on  the  later  tracks  and  melodc  vocals  ae  also used  briefly.

Tottengott  plays  a  musical  style  that  mixes  black,  doom  and  thrash  metal  together  to create  a  sound  of  their  own  while  the  influence  of  Celtic  Frost  really  shows  throughout  the  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Mental  Illness  and  Darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  Tottengott  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  thrash   metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  track.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Satn  Beside  You".  8  out  of  10.
